A spokesman for the forum operator Windmill said: "The fans' forum needed resources which we found difficult to justify. Independent forums of this nature inevitably require constant monitoring of content and, as this was on an official Sheffield United platform, it was important to preserve propriety. There was a danger of not being able to do this."


Several other Sheffield United-based web sites featuring forums where fans can exchange views and comments are available. The club will actively contribute to those sites whenever it is necessary to answer questions on club matters.


A spokesman for the club said "Sheffield United wish to thank its operators over the past decade for supplying the forum."

Seriously, it's a bit poor for it to just disappear, with no warning, the day before the season kicks off. While it wasn't the best, there were some useful/interesting posts (along with a lot of tat).

Thing is though... it doesn't take that much to moderate a forum. Especially one as linear as that.

As far as I can tell, moderation consisted of bans for random reasons (i.e pissing off webbo), and the pulling of threads every now and again....

And I extend a very warm welcome to everyone... it just seems a very strange thing to do without warning... especially when some people will have paid for Superdraw tickets just to get access.

Some of the posters on there were a bit self important and the number of "in the know" postings which turned out to be complete garbage became a little frustrating but i will still miss the board as a whole.

I wonder if Deadbats match reports are available on a free?

Welcome to the forum PB... I do think it's rather unfair not to give any warning of the fact that they were about to make a lot of people homeless.

Still... between ourselves and Bladesmad, I'm sure most posters will find a new home to fit into.

Webbo probably couldn't be bothered to put up with the hassle... which is why we try not to bring it on ourselves. All the rules are there for people to follow or break as they see fit.

I think I must hold a record though. Ten years on the various installations of BU and I was never banned... despite about four people using my log-in at one time because they had been banned
