Why did we sign Holmes?

Just asking like.

Great question, great thread. Fantastic insight.

A pathetic one. How much do you think the likes of Donaldson cost? £50k? Our budget is that of a small L1 club.

A pathetic budget befitting of our tinpot owners.

And? Your point?

Unless you're a potential owner, then we've got our "tinpot owners" for the foreseeable: suck it up.

Doubt what?

£961,000 Stearman
£750,000 L. Evans
£700,000 Leonard
£650,000 Baldock
£500,000 C. Evans
£476,000 Lundstram
£290,000 Thomas

Did you think we'd acquired all these players for free or something?
Presumably paid for by the Walker and Maguire money with some left over to do up the hotel and refurbish McCabe’s Mayfair pad. Tinpot Board.

To be honest Coutts was on his way out before Wilder came along. So I suppose they all deserve another chance next season.

In fairness some of those fees are quite a way out. Stearman’s has nearly trebled!

I had a conversation with the owner of the KFC on Queens Road last week.

I asked him why, if he had any ambition, did he not serve steak rather than chicken with the reconstituted potato (fries) , imagine all the extra customers (fans) he would get, obviously he would still have to charge the same price for steak as he charged for chicken.

I told him that all the money HE SPENT would be an investment, which would reap a favourable return with all the additional customers that came.

He told me to fuck off and spend my own money if I wanted steak because he wished the business to still be there in ten years time.

Tinpot owner.

Great story.

Its a good job it wasn't £962,000 ,we would have struggled to reach that

I'm not doubting you Danny04, but are you honestly saying that on top of the circa £900k we paid as a transfer fee, we've incurred a further £2m in add ons? If so, are there any more add ons to pay?

The other way around my man. Stears’ fee is quoted as nearly £1m - nearer £350k. United effectively bought out his contract at Fulham. It’s all been reported. Where’s £961,000 come from PeterNdlovu081? As well as vastly inflated it’s also very precise :)

(Lundstram was nearer £800k also... most expensive summer signing)

A 3 year contract on wages of say £ 5 K. per week.

£ 750,000 added to the initial payment of ?? you can get figures to say whatever you wish.

Who/what is that referring to?

The complexity of contracts for footballers, and how you can choose to ignore or include various parts of the cost of the contract to support whatever your own point of view is.

When was the last signing you saw where the wages were included in the fee paid by the buying club?

Hence the difference between a fee paid and a contract cost.

Nobody has mentioned ‘contract cost’ but you. United paid around £350k to Fulham for Stearman’s services. As they paid 750k for Evans, 800k for Lundstram, 50k for Clayton.

The owners of the club are responsible for paying the contract cost though so in the case of Donaldson it is considerably more than £ 50 K.

Those detractors of the board use that base figure as an example of lacking ambition.
