Not sure if your taking the mick but....

A new appointment has been made to the board of Sheffield United FC (SUFC), it was announced today.

Jan Van Winckel, who holds a UEFA Pro License and is a technical expert for FIFA, has joined the Blades board. Mr Van Winckel is also an expert panel member for the Asian Football Confederation in Coach Education and Youth Development. He also joins the board of the holding company, Blades Leisure Limited (BLL).

Aged 43, Mr Van Winckel led the Saudi Arabian football team, as chairman of the technical committee, to the World Cup in Russia. He also held several coaching jobs and was for several years the assistant manager of the famous coach Marcelo Bielsa at Olympique de Marseille in France.

Jan graduated with a Masters in Sports Science and Business Economy from the University of Leuven and is still attached as a researcher to the Biomedical Kinesiology Department of Prof. Helsen.

Mr Van Winckel noted: "I am very proud to be part of this club with its amazing fans and rich history. In the last months I have looked in admiration to the work of Chris Wilder and his staff and the work in the Academy. I hope that my experience can contribute to the overall development of the Blades."

Prince Abdullah bin Mosa'ad observed: "Jan is someone whom I have known for a while now. He is an experienced football man and we are delighted to have him as part of the team at board level."
no i wasn't taking the mick. thanks mate.. never heard of the guy.. ffs this is all we need. ST renewal on hold. .he should keep his fucking gob shut .. did i mention i hate fucking belgians? worked there last year.. weapons grade arseholes.

IF it is a compliment then it should either be made clear and not open to interpretation OR (my preference) he should stay the fuck off social media while being on the board of a football club. At best it is inept (if well meaning), like Jim Phipps' attempts on facebook, at worst it is toxic, like a lot of the replies it has received.

Wilder is the only coach I know who has a fitness/conditioning coach so high on his staff, I believe Matt is joint assistant manager, you only have to know this to know that the quote can't be a dig at Wilder? " A good Manager is one who has sense enough to pick specialized staff to do what he wants done" Every 2nd interview Wilder complements Darren Ward the GK coach furthermore Wilder is a self confessed "old School manager" but ever other interview he uses terminology such as Penalty area entries. Wilder very clearly and vocally uses specialists in all aspects of the of the coaching staff. Just seems like people angry at todays score need summit else to complain about. I quite like board members being on Twitter gives the fans who keep the club alive a rightful insight into the workings of the club.

For a start while the boardroom were busy in-fighting they forgot to invest adequately in January when apart from anything else we needed a Coutts replacement, what we have ended up with is four players no better than what were already at the club. Since Coutt's injury we have stagnated as a club and form as been mediocre and little better than bottom six form carry this on over all of next season and we will be fighting relegation.

The issue of exercising the trigger for the option happened after the JTW shut didn’t it?

ok right, so read the original tweet. first impression is its a dig at Wilder, solely because the word meddle is taken out of context. then read the 2nd tweet then it makes more sense. and the more times you read the first tweet the more it becomes apparent that if aimed at Wilder its a compliment. trust our lot to read a tweet once and thats it shoes are off.

I’d agree with you if it wasn’t said straight after a defeat.

Rereading his post now in light of your comments I can see what you mean, but if you've looked at the replies I think you'd have to agree it hasn't given much of a rightful insight in this instance. It has backfired spectacularly. Like I said if you're gonna do it got to be clear about it, otherwise it can be an embarrassment and harm relations with the fans.

I don’t care what you or anyone else chooses to believe, it doesn’t affect me.

As far as decisions made, as I’ve alsready said, he has input an all footballing decisions above team and tactics.

“Above team and tactics”. Such as what? You don’t get many more football decisions than team and tactics? Music in the dressing room? How the oranges are sliced?

Does he sign players? If he does I’d say he’s not done too bad at that

Think we all know what he wants and that’s Wilders job. If the Prince gets his way then a few bad results and he would get rid and appoint his man imo.

I doubt it will even take a few bad results for us to be in the Wilderness. Pun ( ? ) intended.

He’s was brought in by Princeyshitpaper to be the director of football, Wilder told him where to stick that idea. He wanted to change our way of working to a European model as soon as he got his feet under the table, again Wilder (and McCabe) told him where to stick it. His arrival has coincided with our season going off track, co-incidence? Definitely not! He’s tried to meddle here and there since the start, think the ownership dispute is bad? Well add to that a less publicised but equally damaging dispute between king wilder and his supporters at all levels of the club, and Jan Van Fucknugget of Timbuktu. Get out of our club now!

Yep.

Yes but the McCabe's coming back a few months after leaving was some time before as you well know or maybe you are just acting thick. Everyone knows there was a falling out/differences of opinions long before the JTW when Rip Van Winkle turned up.

Hmmmm. I can well imagine what Wilder thinks about having this bloke creeping about the place. Trouble ahead methinks.

Dear Prince (and associated sick heads)

Please give us our club back and take your arse back to the sand dunes.

Kind regards

The REAL FANS!

We were only going one way before the Prince came on board and many on here were pleading for McCabe to sell up and let someone else have a go. Funny how quickly things change.

Is this guy having a pop at McCable? I dont know, but what I do know is these pr1cks in the boardroom need to sort whatever is going off out quickly. Bunch of bell ends.

Anyone know the Darren Smith guy on Twitter keen to defend JVW?

Getting absolutely hammered on twitter by our fans who seem to think this is aimed at Wilder
If nothing else, it shows terrible timing and a complete lack of foresight in terms of how it could possibly be interpreted.

What’s this guy’s role at the club again? It’s obviously not to do with motivation is it?

What many are forgetting is that if the price is right then kev will sell to BRP.

Maybe we should stop trying to defend the inevitable and consider what will happen post McCabes.

If BRP and RVW start a steady stream of quality European young players coming in from his Belgian academy club then maybe our playing model will have to change under Wylder or A.N.Other.

What would be a disaster is BRP and kev spending all the closed season bashin each other over the head and HRH winning control then the first half of the season being a battle between CW and RVW.

We need a quick resolution to the ownership (and I don't think BRP winning might be a bad thing, we need to progress as a club) and a quick resolution to the leadership issues so we can start buying and strengthening the squad ASAP from May onwards. What we don't need is another string of also ran players from the lower tiers that can't break into our current mediocre 1st team. If the later happens next season will be a write off.

And how would a steady stream of young players from a lower league Belgian side, none of whom will have experience of very challenging and physical championship conditions assist our team? The whole BRP Belgian thing smells like a chance for BRP to make some money via running an agency for chucking players into the side a bit like Doyen and that Wolves bloke allegedly do elsewhere. The whole thing stinks. BRP hasn't the cash or backing to do anything with our club so watch out for turmoil if he gains control is my non ITK prediction.

Not condoning it, just saying it could happen in the next few months! But, if we end up like wolves is that a bad thing? If we were in their position not one person on here would condem it and the McCabe era would be history.

Belgium is the fastest way into european football.. Leuven are nobody even by belgian standards if it was Ghent i might take notice

I just hope the prince and Jan Van Winkel do both know that he can never manage or coach Sheffield United. Not only is he grossly under-qualified (sure he was assistant to Bielsa - key word is assistant), it’d also send out an awful message.

It’s hard to know exactly what’s going on at boardroom level so we can only speculate with what we’ve got, but it’s important that the fans aren’t unconditional with their support for the club.
