Outgoing? David Brooks

I await confirmation that he 'insisted' a clause be put into his new contract, which means he can leave for basically fuck all (and if we are lucky, the choice of one of their reserves on a 2 week loan).

If we sell him for £10m I think I might just call it a day.
I'm done, I'm off to Meadowhall, FFS all about a player with potential but hardly in the Currie, Jones, Birchenall, Walker and McGuire bracket and all based on a rumour that's thrown people into a hissy fit. Get a grip.

I think you need to get a grip if you don't think Brooks is in that bracket.
He's got to prove it yet as he may well do but great games against Wendy and Leeds is hardly up to the standard of the players I've quoted even though they were very enjoyable.

This one is easy for Tufty to deal with ......

Hi Daniel, how are you ....... oh you're interested in Brooksy are you ? Fine ...... join the orderly queue ...... bidding begins at £20m or fuck off !! o_O

Just don't let our highly skillful team of deal negotiators anywhere near the phone Tufty ....... :tumbleweed:

Then we shall have to disagree. The winter signings barely seem to have improved the squad, let alone the first team. Every signing we make now should be a guaranteed starter based on ability and track record; that’s how we’ll improve, but it’ll cost considerably more than £750k a pop.
would normally agree but come on . they've only been here a month!

Any club can make an enquiry about any player. Whether this is fake news or an agent trying to engineer a move for him we will never know. Wilder has clearly said this morning thou that he hasn't heard anything.

If anything does happen it will be in the summer anyway and whether he leaves will most likely depend on the budget CW has
Making an inquiry means that buying club go to the potential selling club's board - not advertise that you want to sign the other club's player in the bloody newspapers

Maybe. All if those have played in the top flight. He's a long way to go to match any of their achievements.

Birchenall didn't live up to his early promise and turned into a bit of a journeyman. Still not too bad a player though, but not in the same class as the rest mentioned.

Granted, but he had a long career with decent enough clubs.

Gary Madine has just moved to Cardiff for £6m.

Brooks therefore must be worth £30m based on that, surly?

Haven't they won every game since he signed for them? Hate the guy, but he's very good at his job.

Hypothetically speaking, DB's value is probably currently £10m upfront with £5m in add ons.

Spurs bought Georges-Kévin Nkoudou, a french winger in 2016 for £11m from Marseille. He was 21 at the time, had 50 top league appearances under his belt and was an u21 international. They also bought Juan Foyth in the summer, a 19yr old Argentinian CB for £8m. He'd only made a handful of appearance in Argentina and a dozen u21 appearances. Everton bought Nikola Vlašić, a 19 yr old croatian winger for £10m in the summer, but he'd got nearly 100 appearances for Hadjuk Split. They also paid £7.5m upfront plus £3.5m add ons for Lookman in 2017. Watford paid £8m to Derby for Will Hughes in the summer as well, as vastly more experienced player and only a couple of years older.

I always skip over anything in the gossip column from the sun, daily star, the mirror or daily mail. They clearly struggle for transfer stories during the season and therefore the majority of these are a load of tosh

On a serious note, what is the going rate for very promisingt youngsters who aren’t regulars in upper mid table championship teams?

I’d also be tempted to do business around there, but hopefully a little higher. We don’t have the money to compete, and transferring an asset that isn’t an integral part of today’s setup is probably the only way. Unlike in previous decades, we now have a manager (and board?) who I’d trust with the money,

Fulham want north of £30m for Sessignon and £50m if they go up. On that basis I’d say £20m is about right for Brooks.

Considering Brooks age, potential and the current transfer market, if Wilder thinks 10 million is a good deal for the club he has lost his marbles.

This is 2018 not 2008, the transfer market has moved on considerably.

I doubt very much that Tufty thinks that £10m for Brooks is a good deal for the Club ....... but he isn't on the Board o_O:eek:

Its the numpties that do our "negotiating" and the Board who you need to worry about ...... not Tufty

There’s no comparison, for me. Sessignon has proved his worth beyond doubt, and I’m not sure how you’d calculate only a 50 percent premium based comparative achievement. At no point has Brooks been a regular in our first team.

What on earth makes you think that Wilder would get anything other than a small percentage of that fee to spend?

United fans never learn. Selling Brooks will not mean significantly more funds for Wilder.

As much as I rate Brooks, Sessignon is at least one, possibly two levels above him. Something like 20 goals in 60 appearances at 17?. If he (RS) goes to spurs, and continues his progression, he'll out grow them by the time he's 21. You're looking a potential world star. DB, in all honesty has two well taken goals (one of which might have been a cross), a cruyff/drag back in a derby and a couple of cameos for wales under his belt.

As much as I am loathed to lose good players, I'd take £10m + £5m add ons, DB back on a season long loan and the promise (signed in the blood of the directors) that the money could all be used in full by CW as good/realistic business.

Thanks for your insight. However, I fear you haven’t the slightest clue about what he’d get, other than guessing based on previous history.

What I am sure about is that we can’t compete right now, and a valuable asset hardly gets in the field, I’d argue it’s a luxury we can’t afford.

Of course, i will leave the masses to insist on keeping what we’ve got, and popping down to the money tree for team building.

You maybe correct in true worth but the home market is inflated beyond belief so £10m is cheap....15m up front plus add ons is the starting figure for me

There's no set price for promising young Championship players. Everybody's a different case.

Brooks is an exceptional and unique talent who'd be a regular now if he hadn't got glandular fever. He was a late developer and that's why he hasn't played more games and scored more goals than he has.

We shouldn't let him go for less than £20m. The market is crazy. That would be a great value punt for Spurs or Liverpool.
