Dale Dyke Reservoir after it burst.
A water engineer had noticed there was a crack a few hours before the disaster, wide enough to take a penknife.

And this is the sort of thing that pisses me off, and is typical of an underlying story running through this thread. They wanted to demolish this 1920s building, which wasn't listed and had become derelict:

But they have listed this building:

the thing with listing buildings is they have to have some historical or special architectural significance The Co-Op has this where as the old transport buidling doesnt in fact they are usually more prevalent.

i like the old coop building especially the staircase which is a wonderful piece of design, but architecture is like art very subjective

Ashopton Church - Derwent Valley

The church tower of Derwent slowly disappearing below the water as the reservoir was filled in 1946
The church held its last service on 17 March 1943. The bell from the church may still be heard in Derbyshire, however, since it was re-hung in St Philip’s Church in Chaddesden, built in 1955. Bodies from the graveyard had been exhumed in 1940 and were reburied in the village of Bamford. All buildings in the village had been demolished by autumn 1943, and the impounded waters of the reservoir began to rise by the end of 1944. The church spire was left intact to form a memorial to Derwent. However, it was dynamited on 15 December 1947, on the rationale of safety concerns. The site of the village has been revealed when the reservoir levels fell dramatically in 1976, 1989, 1996 and 2003.

That's not what I meant. The building itself is different today.

I wondered whether it had, though often when people blame the Hun it turns out it was the council. However, even if that's true and that building was replaced, the corner building has shrunk since the war. See the following picture then have a look at Google maps.

Hambleton House is an art deco building with plenty of history and once pulled down would be replaced by nothing of equivalent importance. It should have been listed. You can't wait until there is only one example left before listing it, or wait until enough time has passed for it to be important, because it will be gone. You have to have foresight with these things, which clearly Sheffield has never had. Naturally architecture is subjective, but it's difficult to argue that the co-op building from the outside isn't an eye-sore.

Great bar that first time I’d come across plastic glasses.
We used to go in there and then down to the Penthouse.
Played heavy/ progressive rock.
Loon pants,grandad vests,platforms.

This was usual night out for a bit of prog/heavy rock. Shite Stones or Worthinton E in plastic glasses though.
