21 starts this season - return 10 goals. Fat, lazy, past it? That stat says so fuckin what, i deliver goals.

If he starts the rest of the games this season we qualify for the play offs.

Have to admit I questioned his role in the team after his bad patch & he’s shoved it right up my bobble hat today.
Fair do’s Billy - great performance today and that tap-in for the first goal was OK.

Billy and Leon have 26 goals between them now...?

I’ll leave that one there (unless corrected)

Billy was excellent today, back to what we've been used to ! Maybe. Rest is what he needed. Has come back stronger

Maybe they same to be done with Clarke - what the fuck has happened to him !!

I don't really care who's in tandem TBH, all i know is that if Billy is playing Sunday league or for Barcelona if the ball comes his way in the box he'll score. You cannot leave a player that can score at any given moment out of the side regardless if he's playing well or not.

Horses for courses. We haven't got a complete forward so we need to find the combinations that work well in each situation.

But Billy definitely bought himself more minutes today

The synic in me says the new improved contract.

I cannot disagree. My bladder meant I missed his opener but seen it since. It’s a fantastic goal in many aspects.

It was vintage Billy Sharp today, 1st goal has to be a contender for goal of the season, took the penalty well and ran his socks off all game.

I don't care about the running his socks off bit, the crux is he is a goal every other game striker. That's gold and is a fucking hit rate every club wants. He starts, he scores, don't care if he spends 89 minutes reading the racing post so long as he keeps scoring.

Wasnt there a guy on twitter months back who said he would ride a bike naked or something if billy got to 10 goals this season? Not sure itsitsomething I would want to see thougho_O

For me Billy's performance today vindicated Wilder's decision to drop him. He'd been poor for several games in a row, no way around that. Just not even getting into the sort of scoring positions he usually does when he's on form.

Today he came roaring back, looked hungry and determined to prove a point. Nailed on goal of the season, too.

Brilliant man management from Wilder.

Totally agree.

Billy had a spell where he looked lethargic and was gradually getting worse each match and contributing nothing. He deserved dropping. He must have recharged his batteries because he looked really up for it today, brilliant performance.

I’m a big fan of Sharp and Leon’s but I’ve noticed Leon is slowly dropping his performances/ energy levels.

Many players have increases/ decreases in form and/ or energy levels.
A good manager knows when to play and drop them.

It was good to hear Wilder talk post match about Sharp attitude to being dropped.
Sharp is a senior pro and would have been desperate to play in our recent big matches
But according to Wilder, Sharp has been 1st class in the changing room, no complaining and still supporting his team mates.

Really really pleased that Billy has come through this little test, he’s not past it yet.

Remember Keith Edwards been lethargic quite often but then he kept his shirt cos he would net on a regular basis. Seriously don't get this lethargy shit, he fooking scores goals.

Totally agree above Edwards. It used to make me laugh how you’d often hear someone say “get Edwards subbed he’s been shit”, then a few minutes later he’d score eventhough he’d hardly touched the ball. Edwards could look really lazy because unless he had a chance of scoring he didn’t seem interested. He was the classics poacher but it’s a different game now.

It’s not about scoring goals though, the objective is about winning matches.
The manager decides on the style of play and how players fit in to the playing style.
He has tons of data from each match about how much running/ work each players does, how many passes, assists, tackles every player makes. So he knows more than us.

Wilder seems to want us to defend from the front and press using strikers.
It means opposition defenders can’t settle, building up patient possession and confidence.
So we need sharp, aware strikers, willing to work with stamina and good movement.

Billy has looked tired but today he was on fire and looked really up for it. Great performance.

Sincerely.

Offers MUCH more than just the goals. Wish more could see this ;).

When the ball is played in to his feet, he has great touch, good strength in the hold up play and links the midfield players quite superbly.

UTB

Kevin Phillips was a similar style of player and managed to play at this level until he was 35/36. So there's no reason Billy can't even if that means only playing around 25-30 games a season from now on.

Try 39.

Phillips was 39 when he scored the fastest hat-trick in Crystal Palace's history. He then went on to score the winning goal in the 2013 play off final.

He was still scoring goals for Leicester a year later at the age of 40.

Amazing longevity.

The thing with Billy is normally if he doesn’t score he’s the worst player on the pitch.

Today you take away his goals and he still wins man of the match for me today.

He’s proven so many doubters wrong. If he plays at that intensity like he did today he will be unstoppable.

Where's Tyler when you need him?

Fair play to Bill and Tufty for how he's managed him. For me, when we're at home he has to play. Away from home where we need to be more compact it's a judgment call. When he brings the energy & leadership (and goals) like today he should be first (ok second after Fleck) name on the sheet.

For all those on here who wanted him to go out on loan/sign for Colorado - how do you like you humble pie? Hot or cold?

He seemed to win physical battles too which he struggled to do in his last few games. was a great performance and I was loving it.
