Only 3 of those outfield players started yesterday.

I think Clarke and Wilson will be the first choice home pairing, and I can see why.

I wouldn't start Duffy after he played 90 minutes yesterday, and he's not been on top form recently.

I wouldn't want to chuck Holmes in for his debut in the 10 position in a game like this.

That midfield did well at Norwich. It's solid but with enough quality on the ball. Playing Leonard there will help Baldock out, who played 90 minutes yesterday and will probably be up against Adomah, who's rapid. And without approaching it defensively, it's important we don't lose this game.

As unpopular as it will be.

And as pandering to my “Agenda” as many would have you believe. Conveniently ignoring what I believe is right for the club considering the “bigger picture”.

On merit,Clarke should not start this match.

Of course he will start this match.

Agree, I would say for both the purpose of scoring and getting in Villa's head, Donaldson should start with Wilson, with Leon to come on if required.

I'd go with Donaldson if I didn't think Clarke was considerably more suitable for this game and home games generally. Don's in better form but doesn't get the space at home he does away. I'd start him at Wolves for sure.

I'd get Duffy on for the last 30 minutes at least if we're not winning.

Donaldson & Wilson up top.
Duffy or Holmes in behind.
Fleck & Lenny.
Got a funny feeling Lafferty might get the nod over Stevens, with Baldock on the other side.
JOC, Stearman, Bash.
Moore

Agree with that side Ricky fresh legs after Saturday. Baldock worked his socks off second half which will perhaps make it tough for him late on on Tuesday

I think the break will have done him good this weekend and to be honest I think he links up well with Wilson.
People actually don't want Duffy, our best player this season, in the side?

Really?

I think it’s about making use of the players we have. Duffy played Saturday and perhaps wouldnt have if we’d had a another player ready to slot in for the cup.

But whilst i agree Duffy has had an excellent season, his form has dipped recently, with several new players to choose from, it makes sense to switch things a little.

We’ve got 2 very tough games this week with Leeds a week on Saturday so it’s the sensible approach

As great as Duffy is, I’d be tempted to bring him on later in the game if he’s unable to complete a full game after Saturday. Marking a fresh-legged Duffy after 70+ minutes must be a nightmare.

Having only seen him for one match it’s hard to tell, but the addition of Evans looks like he might really give us a whole new dimension. The way he played against Norwich allowed the centre mids to get forward a lot more, from deep. When it’s Duffy or Holmes, they can play more like they have done for the first part of the season.

It could give us a really simple way to change the whole midfield dynamic at any given moment.

Agree with the OP to some extent.

If that is the formation we play then that is the team.

If we want a number 10 I would throw Holmes into the mix. Duffy in the past few weeks hasn’t hit his usual standards, maybe he’s a little tired.

After Saturday I think this team pretty much 'picks itself'. IMO not one of the 7 who came in on Saturday did enough to justify getting picked for Tuesday.
I think we saw again quite vividly on sat that Lundstram cannot dictate a game in midfield and we either lost momentum or possession quite often when he had the ball. Heneghan is a big unit and was 'steady' but nothing more, and with both him and Wright playing we lost our ability to play out from the back that O'Connell and Basham give us which is so important to how the team function now. Lafferty did ok but certainly did not have me thinking wow he must replace Stevens.
Whilst Billy got the winner via the penalty spot don't think he did enough to dislodge the other strikers currently in front of him in Wilders thinking. Evans just needs more playing time on his road back.
Be an interesting team sheet when it comes out at 6.45 lets hope who ever CW selects that they can deliver an important win.

Ricky I think Donaldson will start again. He bullied Villa a little in the first game. I expect Clarke to come back in along side him.

Wilson will feel really hard done to if he doesn’t start this game after his debut goal. Him and Clarke will start but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Donaldson start in Clarkes’ place.

I'd give Duffy a rest tomorrow night. Put him on the bench and bring him on with 30-20 minutes left. He's worked his arse off and the fixture list is so congested from December onwards, and having so many games in such short time at the moment, I'd rather rotate people slightly to keep their overall levels up.

Agree with Ricky’s starting line up. If we’re chasing a goal I’d send Holmes and Duffy on together for the last 25 minutes.

Id sell fleck just to make picking the Forum team easier

Agreed with OP though I'd start Donaldson and Wilson.

I'm a big fan of Duffy, but the midfield three of Fleck, Leonard and Evans was solid against Norwich. Might have missed the flair of Duffy, but Fleck picked up the creative slack, Leonard covered a huge amount of ground (real box-to-box midfielder) and Evans was quality in the deep-lying role. It was a very solid midfield which still offered something going forward. Villa have a whole host of creative, attacking midfielders (Grealish, Snodgrass, Hourihane), so we need to pick the slightly more defensive midfield. That's where Leonard comes in.

I can see us now having two really strong midfield options, depending on the game. Either Duffy, Fleck and Evans (more attacking) or Fleck, Leonard and Evans (more defensive). Holmes and Lundstram can work their way into the former and latter. Holmes obviously hasn't played a game yet and will need to work his way in, but for me Evans already looks ahead of Lundstram. We'll see though. I know Lundstram has played well for a while.

Can't really argue with that selection & I think that'll be the lineup tomorrow night.

If I was a Villa defender I would be most worried about Donaldson after he scored two GREAT goals in December. I think this lad is due a goal at home but not sure how fit he will be after Saturday.

I think Wilder will start with Clarke and Wilson based on his first team choice against Preston, clearly resting them 2

Hmmm - the team doesn't really pick itself does it?

I'd be tempted to go

Moore

Bash - Stearman - O'Connell

Leonard - Evans - Fleck - Holmes - Stevens

Clarke - Wilson

Subs
Duffy
Baldock
Blackman/Eastwood (depending on Blackman's fitness)
Wright
Donaldson
Ched
Lafferty

Duffy and Baldock put big shifts in on Sat so might as well rotate - not sure if Leonard will make a wing back, haven't seen enough of him but if he's got as good an engine on him as reputed and he's comfortable playing on the right of a back three I don't see why not. Think Holmes will start as Wilder has been so determined to get him.

Very torn about not putting Billy on the bench but I thought Ched was starting to look good on Sat so he gets the nod.

Wouldn't mind seeing Holmes get a start..nothing against Duffy, but Holmes will run at players, run past players and is more of a goal threat....I think Villa's weakness is their back line..Grealish seems to be playing well of late and pulling the strings.
I'll go,to start...
Moore
Bash,Stears,JOC
Baldock,Evans,Fleck,Enda
Holmes
Clarke,Wilson

Wilson will feel really hard done to if he doesn’t start this game after his debut goal

But equally Donaldson might having come on to replace Wilson and scoring the second.

Ricky's gone for the same team and bench as the Norwich game, can't argue with that.

1. Why does everyone think Leonard is a attacking Midfielder 2. Duffy is MOTM practically every game he is our only source of creativity at the moment, how the fuck has he been out of form?
