I don’t think Wilder would be foolish enough to be swayed by how Ched Evans is doing in training – he's yet to prove he’s over his injuries, and frankly getting anything out of him this season will be a bonus at this stage. In Clarke, Donaldson, Wilson and Sharp we have on the face of it 4 reliable strikers, none of whom are guaranteed a start, and then potentially Evans if he’s able to get himself up to speed.

I’m a big fan of Clarke, but some of his performances of late haven’t quite been up to the standards we’ve come to expect of him. Could quite easily be Donaldson and Wilson starting the next league game.

I think Wilder puts a lot of stock into how players perform in training actually...but yes, Ched would be a risk and I can’t see where this rumour has come from...hence putting Ched into the equation.

Sharp is an undoubted goal scorer no one can deny that. His all round game however is very poor. Doesn’t win headers / retain possession / run in behind, it summed it up at Preston away were he was very poor.

If he doesn’t score we have played the game with 10 men, however he does score a fair few. It’s a a tough one.

We can dominate teams more with him not in the side. However he is the one who only needs half a chance to win it.

I would keep him and reassess in the summer. However in the summer I think he may go.

Sorry, but that’s nonsense. Without even looking it up I can immediately think of the deep crosses vs Hull and Fulham that we’re put on a plate for Clarke to head home in front of the Kop. To say that Sharp is only a goalscorer reminds me of the description Deane often used to get of being “just a target man”.

Because he’s out of form? Because other players are playing better than him? He’s rightly out of the team. His contribution in general has been poor the last few league games he has featured. His all round game was very good at Portman Road the other week. He is, and always has been, a player that drifts in and out of form.

This still makes no sense.

He might not have been offered a new contract, so it may be coming clear that his playing days with us are coming to an end, ended by the change of tactic brought on by Coutts injury.

However, he hasn’t suddenly developed an inability to run and work hard, as he always has done. Ok, we all know his limitations and how others may bring more options to the teams overall play. But for getting in the right place and popping up with a goal he has a value until the end of the season.
I just can’t see the club captain walking away and effectively seeing his arse cos he’s not playing. He can sit where he is, get his head down, get the odd goal and see where the season ends for the club, and then have the option of going wherever the best contract is with no fee attached, being as it may well be his last.

And I agree with others, that it would to me leave a slightly bitter taste when I would personally like to see him being directed towards the academy and coaching our young strikers in the dark arts of goalscoring. Whether he has the mettle to manage I don’t know, but coaching with the experience he has is invaluable.

Billy will be into double figures regards his wages so it won’t be far off with appearances and goal bonuses. The bloke scored 30 goals last season and will have got a good wage rise just for the promotion last season.

But I would imagine Sharp is one of the higher earners and if he’s not playing then it’s a waste of money.
