The "Pigs"

There was no social media (thank God) then so these types of things might be regionalised to a very small community of Blades.
It’s like the Greasy Chip butty song, I personally first heard it sang by 100’s of away fans in 1985.
But I suppose it’s possible a small group were singing it earlier but I never heard it.
Also there’s the rumour that a few Rotherham fans started singing the GCB song in the early 80’s but it obviously never caught on at Milmoor.
Possible? I've posted many times that I heard it in 1984 after Rotherham away. I'm not senile and I'm not lying. It happened.

When I was a kopite we used to sing "I'm forever blowing bubbles" as one of our regular chants. Not many younger Blades and wet spammers will recall or believe that one. We also sang you'll never walk alone, maybe Liverpool stole that one of us

I believe you, I've sung it!

Then like the Wensdy they'll fade and die,
Tottenham's always running,
..............(Arsenal?) running too,
................always running,
running after you,
UNITED - UNITED - UNITED (repeat till fade).

Help me fill in the blanks Blade56 :)

The last bit was "United's always running, running after you, UNITED (clap, clap, clap), etc.

As a lad, I remember us altering that at the Lane, and we sang (to the opposition fans)

"Walk on, walk on, with hope, in your arse, and you'll never walk again, you'll never walk again"

Which is exactly why my dad and sisters wouldn't relay the lyrics to me!

Then there was:

"Walk on!" (clap-clap)
"Walk on!" (clap-clap)
"With hope!" (clap-clap)
"In your arse!" (clap-clap)
"And you'll ne-!" (clap-clap)
"-ver walk!" (clap-clap)
"Alone!" (clap-clap)
"You'll ne-!" (clap-clap)
"-ver walk!" (clap-clap)
"Alone!" (clap-clap)

Sounded ace!

Other fans must think Sheffield football fans are mentally deficient.

Yep, that's the pace it was sang at, and you need to change "Alone" to "Again", meaning that the Shoreham Republican Army were going to break your legs.

And there's more

Maybe the best thing we can to is show him/her how to do a 'quick search online'? ;)

Tottenham''s always running
Arsenal's running too
And when you come to Shoreham
We'll be after you!

I completely agree with you and this is how I remember drawing their badge in the mid 70's:

It started well before that.

In the late 60's I met Mrs. Joe ( for better or for worse ) and through her, some new friends who were all Blades.

As a result, I gave up my usual place on the kop and joined them on the John Street terrace.

I clearly remember that a youngish guy who stood near us used to wear a smart looking cap with a badge on it which read :-

" If pigs could fly , Hillsborough would be an airport "

That’s exactly how I remembered it too.
Also in the late 70’s and early you’d see the Owls badge graffitied on a wall, then a Blade would draw the snout, pigs ears and curly tail on their badge.

Would also see “OWLS” grafittid on walls and some Blade would draw in a “F” to make “FOWLS”.

I believe you, although I was at the Rotherham match in 84, on the away end near the corner flag close to the toilets and I never heard it.

Although when a new song is composed, it can take months or even years before it becomes main stream.
Who ever composed that song didn’t hand out song sheets and there was no internet.
So it makes sense that it was sang by small groups well before it became our anthem sang en masses by all Blades.

Ive always thought they were just called 'The Pigs' because the terminology suited them perfectly.
