Interesting......although a photo emerged last week of Leonard with a training top with the number 5 on it so probably safe not to read too much into it!

For what it's worth though we know midfielders are going out and with United I would never rule anything out!

Or has Holmes nicked his kit?

Not serious, they are about same size though

it'd be a step backwards if he did. i'm surprised that they signed murphy tbh, there are very strong rumours that they are in big financial difficulties again & are going to go 'pop'.

I was surprised at Murphy too. I have heard the same, but have also read that a lot of those rumours have been started by Celtic fans - So who knows? It would be ludicrous if they've been run that badly again!

I'd still doubt that Fleck would move there though, didn't he refuse to be transferred to the new company when they were initially having their strife?

it's only a matter of time that rangers goes again. it's like trying to run a lower end premier league club in the 1st division. champagne tastes on beer money. hearts, hibs & aberdeen get high teen thousand attendances, the rest are 6k to 3k. your survival is tied up with CL football. it really must be a matter of life and death between the two glasgow clubs. think of the financial damage that we've endured going from the champ to the 1st!

Why is it only a matter of time?

for the points mentioned. they are a large club with the size and structure of an aston villa and associated running costs. other than the old firm games, there is little or no tv interest/money in the scottish top division. the english prem gets £1.71bn, scotish prem get £18.75m. to fund the club at the desired level, they must recruit a quality of player to push them into the champions league group stage. that level of player is english premier reserve and is on £20k a week minimum. they've not done that and are losing money season on season at an increasing rate. they are currently being supported by interest free loans by the chairman to the tune of £7m last year and a projected £10m this year. they're not going to qualify for the foreseeable future, i would respectfully suggest that this is an unsustainable model. i can't see it continuing. teams get about £20m for competing in the CL group stage and i suspect that is what allows celtic to keep on doing what they are doing. i may be wrong, i suspect that you are going to tell me that i am.

Just wearing a piece of spare kit, nowt to see here.

If Fleck had been sold / or was in the process of being sold there is not way it wouldn't have leaked by now. Alan Nixon would have been all over it as he has with most of our transfers this season.

Much of that sounds similar to what's happened here over the years.

Rangers have been running with that same model for years. Low TVs money etc. They've also had to rebuild from the bottom. The only likely way they will go under again is if the board stop funding them. Prior to that happening I would expect a sale. Now back in the top division without all the previous baggage and with near capacity crowds, they are much more saleable than 4/5/6 years ago.

Times may not be good at the moment but them going under is more of a partisan wish than a reality.

A fair point, well made ST, you may know more on the matter than me. I had been told two unsubstantiated rumours about rangers, one is good, one not so. One is that they are taking advice of IP's regarding their current position, the other is that a relatively wealthy ex owner of a rugby union club is looking at buying them in the near future (after an upcoming issue gets resolved?). In light of that I was surprised that they have been buying players of the quality that they have recently. The IP rumour is probably what is fueling the wider rumours & betting suspension on relegation, because that would incur a fairly large points deduction. You might be correct about who is spreading those rumours.

Long term scotland has got to secure a 2nd qualifying spot from their league or both glasgow clubs will continue to look covetously at the english premier league. Apologies if I'm telling people what they already know, but last season celtic won the treble and received in total about £3.24m in prize money, sunderland won £100m for finishing bottom of the prem. The checkatrade cup pays twice the prize money than the scottish league cup.

To correct myself, last year celtic's revenue increased by nearly 100% by getting into the CL group stages, it was worth £30m not the £20m I'd previously mentioned.

Scottish football is a mess and has been for years, and at it's very foundation is the huge support for 2 teams at the expense of all others. There's no excuse for supporting Rangers or Celtic unless you are from Glasgow, and if enough glory hunters supported their local sides they could have a decent, sustainable, 2 tier professional league (with semi professional lower down) a la Denmark (which has a similar population). Lo and behold, they might even come close to replicating the astonishing (relative to population) success of the Denmark national side over the years.

There are glory hunters here too of course and its just as inexcusable, but it's a 'luxury' England can better afford.

It's certainly a strange one, seeing as between '84 and '87 it was up there with the best in europe.

And perhaps no coincidence that at this time there were other sides doing well, Aberdeen beat Real Madrid in a European final (unthinkable now) and Dundee United narrowly lost a European final (to Gothenburg I think). When power is in the hands of the few, the outcome is seldom positive.

I also think Dundee Utd lost in the semi's to Roma due to some skulduggery the year they played Liverpool in the final.

Going through lots of managers is bad for the bank balance as well!
