Quite a few on here will be willing Fleck is sold, signing 4 players doesn't sit well with the McCabe haters

I don't know of anybody who is "willing Fleck to be sold" ........ but I know of quite a few people who will be very relieved if we get through the transfer window with only Whiteman, Hanson, Long, Henegan and perhaps Lavery & Carruthers going out !!

I was told that Brighton wanted to sell but wouldn't to Rangers as they weren't convinced they would be paid (100% football debt doesnt work cross border) hence the loan.

There's no excuse for supporting Rangers or Celtic unless you are from Glasgow,

I live in Rugby, originally from Northern Ireland. I did live in South Yorkshire for a while tho, just want to clarify whether by the same token I'm ok to support the Blades?

I'd like to be called a "glory seeker" for doing so.. No, I REALLY would. :)

It's a bit late to ask being as how you've already got the the 'Hillmorton Blade' name and have made nearly 6k posts in the last 3 years, but I'll put it to the Committee.

Just wait there a bit.

You're more than welcome, though I would question your sanity ;)

The Committee have just convened an emergency session and they're not that keen on the cut of your jib. The Rugby thing didn't go down well and your vague 'did live in South Yorkshire' is woefully inadequate. The Irish thing seems to be okay what with Billy Gillespie, Keef etc but somebody thinks you dog looks 'a bit posh'

Can you re-submit your application please? We will then fastrack you and you will have a firm decision by August.

Can't say fairer than that, can we?

Nobody in their right mind supporting us from afar can be called a glory hunter but my point still stands, that football would be the better for fans supporting their local club. It's not just contained within countries any more, the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juve and Man Utd make astonishing sums from the Far East, and their 'supporters' there need to ask themselves wouldn't their support be better directed to a local side, benefitting their local economy and enriching their domestic league?

I quite like Scottish football. Seems a bit more like it used to be...

Was better back in the day, when Aberdeen and the likes were giving the big teams a run for the money. Nowadays they can barely get past a bunch of amateurs from the Faroe Islands.

This true. I don't think they'll much improve unless the money drys up elsewhere!

But that's the odd thing, they don't seem to be producing good players through the big 2 or english clubs either. It's if something happened genetically in the 80's in Scotland and the gene pool was irrevocably alerted. I mean Alan Hanson couldn't get a game for them in the 80's and Christophe Berra is still turning out for them today.

Let’s be honest England haven’t produced that many, Gazza was the last player to produce genuine world class central midfield performances for England, and Beckham always gave 100% and was a dead ball specialist

But apart from that? Lampard and Gerrard only did it at club level alongside brilliant foreigners who made them look better than they were, Scholes only ever wanted to play for Man U and others like Joe Cole have flattered to deceive

Why don't you support your local side then? :)

Although.. I do support local non league sides, so I do my bit. Off to watch FC Stratford against Bustleholme this evening.

for the points mentioned. they are a large club with the size and structure of an aston villa and associated running costs. other than the old firm games, there is little or no tv interest/money in the scottish top division. the english prem gets £1.71bn, scotish prem get £18.75m. to fund the club at the desired level, they must recruit a quality of player to push them into the champions league group stage. that level of player is english premier reserve and is on £20k a week minimum. they've not done that and are losing money season on season at an increasing rate. they are currently being supported by interest free loans by the chairman to the tune of £7m last year and a projected £10m this year. they're not going to qualify for the foreseeable future, i would respectfully suggest that this is an unsustainable model. i can't see it continuing. teams get about £20m for competing in the CL group stage and i suspect that is what allows celtic to keep on doing what they are doing. i may be wrong, i suspect that you are going to tell me that i am.
Fair points, but I would take issue with you saying that Rangers are the size and structure of Aston Villa. They are far bigger than that. In fact they are potentially one of the world`s biggest clubs in terms of support, but, as you highlight, they suffer the economic realities of Scottish football.

The rest of the world has caught up and overtaken the smaller developed countries that had an advantage in the sixties and seventies. Almost every FA can now find top coaches to work for them and can afford state of the art facilities and technology. The Scots (or the Dutch or the English) weren't genetically superior footballers, they were just better coached and organised than some of their foreign counterparts. They don't have that advantage anymore so it's become more of a numbers game; the higher your population, the more likely you are to have twenty decent players amongst them.

I'll stand corrected. As daft as it sounds I reckon that I always subconsciously compare them due to their main stand & villa's holte end.

Scottish fans would love a return to days of being laughed at, at a major tournament, as opposed to being laughed at during the qualifiers.

I wish the BladeyMcBladefacethreadtheives would f*** off and start their own Feckin Burne's thread, this is a Feckin conspiracy thread about the board secretly selling our players on the QT not a Feckin hootenanny ;)

A fair point, well made ST, you may know more on the matter than me. I had been told two unsubstantiated rumours about rangers, one is good, one not so. One is that they are taking advice of IP's regarding their current position, the other is that a relatively wealthy ex owner of a rugby union club is looking at buying them in the near future (after an upcoming issue gets resolved?). In light of that I was surprised that they have been buying players of the quality that they have recently. The IP rumour is probably what is fueling the wider rumours & betting suspension on relegation, because that would incur a fairly large points deduction. You might be correct about who is spreading those rumours.

Long term scotland has got to secure a 2nd qualifying spot from their league or both glasgow clubs will continue to look covetously at the english premier league. Apologies if I'm telling people what they already know, but last season celtic won the treble and received in total about £3.24m in prize money, sunderland won £100m for finishing bottom of the prem. The checkatrade cup pays twice the prize money than the scottish league cup.

To correct myself, last year celtic's revenue increased by nearly 100% by getting into the CL group stages, it was worth £30m not the £20m I'd previously mentioned.

A mate of mine is a Celtic fan and was telling me at the weekend that the same bloke who reported the financial situation last time is reporting it again.

When I actually looked into it the bloke is an avid Celtic fan and seemingly on the wind up.

Not sure if there’s much in it or not.

Would the departure of fleck make this window a disaster from the current feeling of positive bladeyness. I doubt fleck is going in this window but if coutts is back next year we have 4 good midfielders for 2 slots. So one is more likely to leave over the summer and a lot will depend on how leonard and Evans get on over the next few months

Another whining thread, why can't fans be happy that we have brought in 4 players? All we are going to hear now until February is Clark, Brooks, Fleck or (Insert name of player) _____________ will have to be sold to pay for them.
Fucking sick of the whining on FB, Twitter and Forums, FFS moan when you have something to moan about not at something that is yet to happen and might well not happen.

Nobody EVER needs an excuse to support the sexy R&W wizards ..... it is a calling in life and means you have transcended to a higher plane of existence and forsaken both the dark side, and the lure of the glory seeker teams like Liverpool, Man U & C, Chelski and Arsehole.

Sadly seems the case that some on here will find whatever they can to whine about. And when nothing is left then find a 'whatif' and whine about that. I will enjoy the current good news and rub my hands in anticipation of the successes to come. :):):)
