I even know what the announced fee will be. Undisclosed.

Betty in Souvenir shop was off sick so they haven’t been able to print him a shirt with his name on for the obligatory photo.

Betty was not off sick. She's one of the ones on her way out. Part of the Holmes deal. She starts in the Charlton Souvenier shop Monday morning.

Another example of us fans wanting things now relax.

Leonard even said he has been training for a few days before was announced.

I hope we sign Holmes. He was one of two players I hoped Wilder would bring with him from Northampton when he left there. I do have concerns about Holmes apparent mercenary nature though. But if he can get down that flank and take players on and get in the box, he will be a most welcome addition to the squad, because we desperately need to do that and stop all this bloody tip-tapping about with the ball outside the 18 yard box.

So KR can spend Ricky's wages on other players,i would assume from what he says is that Samir will only be available on loan if Wilder wants it to happen.

Charlton fan on their board Friday night said Carruthers was only going to be a loan as the chairman wanted cash up front.

Which is a shame really because nobody will give us as much for Carruthers as Karl Robinson would, he seems to rate him very highly.

Well let’s be honest.
Carruthers does have loads of talent. We were all really impressed when we first saw him.
It’s just that he makes the wrong choices, seems more of an individualist instead of a team player and doesn’t track back.
Also he was really good in league 1 but struggled to make the step up to Championship level.
So it wouldnt surpass me if he ended up being a really good signing for Charlton.

It might work out cheaper to release carruthers on a free so to free up his wages.

You win some you lose some !

It’s not as simple as that though.
If Carruthers was released he’s entitled to a massive pay off from United.
So we wouldn’t really be freeing up any wages, we’’d just be paying it all in advance.
I suppose s loan deal might be a compromise option, where Charlton pay most of his salary.

Wednesday have loads of highly paid players who have flopped.
They now have a massive wage bill and would love to offload players.
However those players would need paying off too.

Ending a players contract prematurely can be really expensive business.

Very true, it has to be "my mutual consent".

I guess we could loan them Carruthers and they pay him the wages they were paying Holmes, with us making up any short fall?

Or maybe CW wants to keep Carruthers?

That’s actually not too bad a situation. I think anyone that’s seen Carruthers of late won’t be particularly keen to spend much on him. A decent loan spell at Charlton would help maximise that value if we choose to sell him, be it to Charlton with new owners, or to another club that notice his performances.

Very true, it has to be "my mutual consent".?

I believe what normally happens is that the player and club agree a reduced/ partial pay-off.

I understand that’s what happened with Billy Sharp at Leeds.
They paid off part of his contract meaning he could afford to accept a reduced salary when moving to us.

Pay off a % of the money owed. % could be dependant on what the next club pay on wages. Player ends up with 100% of previous salary but from 2 sources. Old club make a saving in total but lose capital. All depends on if you are cash rich or not

Please can everybody get it into their fucking heads that Carruthers isn't some worthless piece of deadwood? He has value. He's an asset. He will have plenty of suitors. His wages won't be too high to put clubs off either.

Releasing him is the most ridiculous suggestion I've heard.

A loan move would be a good idea. Anyone in L1 would take him. He'll do well there. His value could increase. I'd like to see him at Bradford but we'd have to contribute to his wage. A loan to Charlton seems most likely but if it's done after the Holmes deal is completed it won't contribute to us getting him any cheaper.

Although I never said it, I was thinking that a mutual consent was the way to do it with a release. Charlton don't have any money - it wouldn't surprise me if they keep the saving from RH salary and just plod on until the takeover is complete. Possibly buy Samir in the summer.

IMO Samir has no real value now as I can only see him moving to Charlton for a nominal fee.

I agree but he's likely to be on high wages for a Lg 1 team. We gave him a four year contract. He is an asset and its about time we got some money back on players. The best place for him is on loan under a boss who wants him and will probably get the best out of him. If he does well then his value rises and Charlton may come in for a permanent deal at the end of the season when their takeover is complete. Charlton poster also said he believed fee for Holmes was £650k. If thats true then we have pushed the boat out to get him.

Tin hat on here.
I actually don't think he's a bad player he just needs a longer run of games than he is getting.
I don't get some of our fans, some just seem to jump on the a player is shit bandwagon, bit like what happened with Coady, Stearman, Basham, Clarke, Luddstrum etc.
Curruthers didn't seem to do too bad against Ipswich on the highlights i watched, also he got Utds MOM according to an Ipswich blogger.
I think he could have played a part against Wednesday at least he would have ran at them.
Tin hat firmly on and in a bunker.

I do think given a run in the team Carruthers would show his ability and win over a few fans. Very few players ever look good with the odd cameo off the bench here and there, however with Duffy having a decent season it’s difficult to see Samir getting a run in the team.

Personally I wouldn’t be keen on letting Carruthers go in exchange for a 30 year old that’s never played at Championship level before. But the problem is Wilder is shopping at Aldi whilst our rivals are shopping at Waitrose, so what can he do?

Even considering paying-off Carruthers is utter madness. He has 2.5 years left on his contract, has transfer market value and is wanted by other clubs. He is also likely to develop further as a player and his value increase accordingly. Why then would Utd even think about paying-up his contract, which would directly impact future budgets.

Disagree...
Samir is very talented, give him a run of games in league 1, get his confidence up and I reckon he’d be one of the BEST midfielders in that league. However I think he might be a bit of a flat track bully.
Put him up against weaker (league 1 standard) opposition and he’s able to shine and take the pi$$ but put him up against stronger and faster players (in the Championship) and hes not so confident and appears that he can’t seem to handle the step up so well but its early days and he’s still young with plenty of potential.

It currently looks like he’s in the category, “too good for league 1 but not good enough for the Championship”. I’m certain he’d be a big asset for any league 1 side and many would want him if they could afford him but to be fair he’s still young, so wouldn’t write him off yet even in the Championship.

Some people are making the stupid mistake of viewing him in the same bracket as some of the unwanted trash we had in L1 - players who were genuinely worthless, and unmovable due to what we were paying them.

We paid about 300k for him when he had 6 months left on his contract.

He's certainly worth no less than that now. How could he be?

Talk of release or nominal fees is crazy.

Even if no one was currently willing to pay near 300k then only an absolute mug club would let him go for next to nothing. Instead you'd keep him, maybe loan him out and wait until he's either in contention for us or someone's willing to pay what he's worth.

Agree or perhaps some people just don't have a grasp of basic contract law and football financials

Hope not. That's a fucking lot.

We bid for £400k for him in the summer when he only had 6 months left on his contract. Thought we'd got him then Charlton started asking for more. He's signed a three year contract since so £650k seems about right. Listening to Robinson it s clear he thought Carruthers was coming the other way permanent. We probably thought so as well say £300k plus Carruthers. Charlton owner has stepped in wanting cash to reduce club debt before he sells.

He had a year left when we bid 400k and he's only got older since then - he's nearly 31 now. Add in Charlton's owner wanting to sell and I thought we would've limited our offer to under 500k. Hopefully we have.
