I think everybody (Karl Robinson, Chris Wilder, both sets of fans) would be happy from a footballing point of view with a deal which saw Carruthers and Holmes trade clubs with Charlton receiving £100-200k. But reading between the lines of Karl Robinson’s interview, I think their outgoing Chairman would rather receive full monetary value for Holmes, he’s looking for returns.

Could be wrong, but we’re in the Rumour Mill and that’s my guess.

Think that will cause huge aggro between KR and the Board. That would have been a good deal for everyone. Feel sorry for Charlton there. Hopefully we can at least loan them Samir for the rest of the season in return for 50k(ish) off the transfer fee.

Hmmm. What are the chances of this putting the kibosh on Holmes heading our way ? Presumably, Carruthers' value would have been a sizeable contribution to the overall cost to us ? I hope the Duchatalet twat hasn't just scuppered the whole deal with this.

If we sign Holmes LJ, I'll be the first to admit that the board has backed Wilder to the hilt. That'll be 3 permanent players and one loan which is ironically the opposite of the 3 loans and one permanent which was reported by the local media from Wilder's interviews and got my goat. I know we didn't see it the same over the budget in terms of what is good backing and what Wilder wanted. I won't go over that all again but I really hope we sign Holmes and I'll happy to be like the picture below!

Excellent post. It’s not easy to say that.

My disagreement with you wasn’t around the players we brought in (permanent or loans) it was mainly around you saying we needed to spend x amount of money. As I said at the time, would it matter if we hadn’t spent loads of Wilder had got the players he wanted.

We all want the same thing in the end but I suppose slight disagreements is what this board is all about

Exactly how I feel. The noises coming out of the club in December weren’t promising regarding January. Nobody expects us to splash cash around like Wolves and Villa, but a bit of sensible spending would’ve been nice. Get this one over the line and as long as we don’t flog the family silver it’ll have been a fantastic window.

It's been a very decent window so far, and getting them in early is a massive bonus. Friday was a game to early for our new players but would expect them to play in the next few games. Never understand why teams leave it to the last day. You miss 4 weeks use of a player, there is a good chance something will scupper the deal and the price increases.

Of course players will leave, and need to, but this outlay could easily be covered by one sale of any number of first team players. Hopefully it won't and I don't believe that is the plan, but one offer that we consider too good and it might not look so good and could we end up making a large profit this window.
