Football's different though. Say we were leading Wolves 1 nil with 20mins to go. Wilder may want to go a bit more defensive and deploy him inside as opposed to out wide for more midfielders. How on earth could Liverpool dictate that we're not allowed to do that?

They may not be able to dictate whether or not we/they are "allowed" to do it, but there could be financial penalties or the risk of a recall.

If the lad can put in a cross then he’s worth having. Sick to death over the last couple of months of our wide players, having got into decent positions, hitting the first man with their cross.

That's why I liked JCR. He could get into a decent position and he never hit the first man with his crosses, he usually hit folk sitting on the kop.

You won't find many better pacy attacking players than him so maybe the potential penalty payments are something we're willing to accept on this occasion?

In that sense, wouldn’t the total of those (assuming they’re not particularly large) basically be equivalent to us paying a loan fee?

Yes, there’s a great deal to be sick to death about in relation to our team at the moment. It’s awful. I vomit every time I see them play.

1 win in 9. All is not rosy, so drop the sarcasm. After that run it is only normal to try and identify our weaknesses, crossing is definitely one.

I did hear at the start of the season a certain unanimity that we would do very well to stay in this division. Most sensible people realised that we might struggle to adjust when we lost our pivotal midfielder.

Still, you have a bit of attention being sick to death. I’ll carry on enjoying the best football team we’ve had for decades, even when we lose.

Football contracts do not contain job descriptions of ‘left midfielder’ or ‘right wing-back’. It would be absurd. How do you prove a breach? Montgomery would have had to pay a fortune in damages for failure to comply with ‘midfielder’.

Courts do not involve themselves in minutiae of that nature. If such restrictive terms were enforceable Kent, for example, could refuse to play a ‘number ten’ role because he’s only contracted for left midfield. He could walk off if asked to fill in at left back owing to injury. It’s nonsense.

Of course clubs can “agree” anything they like, but a verbal contract ain’t worth the paper it’s written on as immortalised by Sam Goldwyn.

On a practical level, I would hope Wilder would not involve himself in any ‘must play’ agreements let alone ‘must play in a certain position’. It’s third-party management! Fuck that, Tufty would say, I trust.
I find it surprising how many lawyers use the term 'verbal' when they mean 'oral'.

Which cases are these? Can you provide examples?

As I've admitted in the thread, I'm clearly not a legal mind, thus i don't have any examples. I'm reffering to the deals which involve penalties/discounts based on playing time (which have been fairly well publicised)

Upon reading this thread, i accept that describing it as a "contractual obligation" is probably wrong. "Oral agreement" may have been more applicable.

I find this post very odd Pinchy. I expressed my annoyance at our recent poor performances where crosses are concerned, you go on to pick a strange argument with me through the medium of sarcasm, in which you didn’t actually challenge anything that I’d said, you then imply I’m not “sensible” and then you have the audacity to call me the attention seeker. Just settle yourself down a bit.

‘Sick to death’ is a very odd and emotive phrase to use about any aspect of our excellent team. I challenge that as a silly tantrum. Nobody in the right mind would be sick to death of anything these lads do. They are proper footballers and a credit to our club. Watch a few games from the Blackwell and Adams era if you want a bit of nausea.

5* weak foot on Fifa. The highest you can get.

For perspective, Ronaldo has 4*.

Gerrimin.

Agree kn, if he turns up and it does t work out like his other loan we have to pay or leave a better option out.

One caveat is 'in Tuffty we trust'. Could be worse, Turry could be negotiating contracts.
don't really have a problem with "discounts" if the lad plays as I think this is the only way for championship teams to get their hands on potentially really good players. Got to view it as a discount if he plays rather than a penalty if he doesn't, otherwise you end up bitter and twisted :)

Been watching some of his video's, certainly looks like he'd fit in our formation as a Duffy /Brooks alternate.
Be a good addition imo.

Bristol City or us....

Offers made.

Purely based on current formations he'd get more game time there than here surely? But I would love for us to sign him on loan. Cracking talent.

Apologies if already posted...

He looks like exactly what we need. Someone who can unlock a defence. Genuinely two footed, good pace and looks hard working in tracking back too (though I’m aware these clips can deceive). I fear Duffy will tire as the season goes on.

Been told this deal is unlikely to happen. I was told that Klopp or someone at Liverpool was trying to dictate how many times he’d have to play for us. To which Wilder has said no as he only wants lads who earn a spot.

Also they wanted an appearance fee 4 x more than we were wanting to pay. Just what I heard from a mate of someone who works for the club.

Given that we don’t play with wingers and with Bristol’s current form (cup semi coming up, 4th in the league) I would think (annoyingly) that they’re a slightly better proposition than us at the moment.

Never know though, he's from Oldham, parent club is Liverpool, and he's been at Barnsley, so South Yorkshire might not be too bad a prospect, close to home, probably knows the area.

Also, Bristol might get knocked out of the cup tomorrow, so who knows.

This is where it's difficult not to feel conflicted about Wilder upholding his principles. Kent's a very good player who would be likely to start for us and would be a difference maker. But I suppose consistently applying those principles is a key reason behind his success.

100% with CW on this.
For me there is something not quite right about a club insisting a player plays. Surprised Fatty Samuels hasn't piped about it, another team dictating to another sounds dodgy.
Equally if i was in charge at Liverpool i would want him to earn his place.

If we have tole Liverpool to stuff it regarding Kent, does this mean we have told them to stuff it regarding Brooks then?

Id imagine if the door was open for Liverpool to buy Brooks, this deal would be somewhat sweetened?

Yeah think it’d be risky to agree to something like that with him being a singer.

Plus the blokes right, if someone walks in without warning their place what message does it send out?

If Liverpool rate him as highly as they say they do you'd like to think they'd be confident that he'd get in our team and let him come here.

Totally back CW on this one. What would it do to team morale if Wilder had to tell players he had to leave them out because he had given assurances about the number appearances Kent would make?

The media still seem to think that we are battling it out with Bristol for Kent's services this evening though?

I'm not giving up hope yet despite the rumours....After all, he would be a fantastic addition to the squad.
