JOC definitely needed the rest, glad he wasn't involved today, hopefully had his feet up with a brew and'll be back strong on Friday.

We keep only our second clean sheet In 15 matches and coincidentally, Jake Wright plays. I love being a Shakey Jakey! :)

Great win Blades, very comfortable!

Did he play in O'connells position? Can't imagine he got forward much ?

It’s not Wright vs Stearman, it’s recognising how well we defend with Wright in the side and Stearman with his performance today has proved he merits inclusion with his performance today.

This thread is exactly Wright v Stearman fan boys.

Also Wright and Stearman won’t play in the sesame side in a league match

What makes you so sure?

Give some views on why Jake Wright shouldn’t be in the team instead of spouting bollocks.

Wright, Stearman and JOC won’t all play together as they are all left footers? If JOC has an injury or suspension then I’m sure Wright would play central with Stearman on the left and Bash/CCV on the right

At no point have I stated Jake shouldn’t be in the team. If I’m honest I rate both highly.

But as you have asked for my view here it is may I add are based on facts too. In the current preferred system we use you know the one that has served us well,we use 1 commanding rigid central defender in the middle of the back 3, you may have noticed this. For this role we use either Wright OR Stearman 2 men for one role.

The Centre backs either side of this central role LCB and RCB are far more fluid ideally this is Basham and JOC these guys have the freedom to go forward and overload as they come from so deep they are hard to pick up meaning we have an unmarked advantage.

If Bash goes forward Baldock tucks in to create a back 4 if JOC goes forward Stevens tucks in to create a back 4 and cover. All the while that one main stay remains there at the heart of defence. The mainstay is Stearman or Wright

So unless either Wright or Stearman develop the energy and drive to bomb on as often as JOC and Basham Do then they will remain the two players vying for one place. Or we revert to 442 which we won’t do.

See, it wasn’t hard was it! :)

I’m of the opinion that you play the players that make you look more solid and get you the results, Wright has to play because of this, you fit your team around your best players.

The thing I like about Wright is his calmness and the way he comunicates with the others. He breeds confidence in others. EEL wasn’t even half as good last season when Wright wasn’t along side him

I've been saying for weeks they should both play, maybe not at home, but certainly away when we'll sit deeper and don't need as much bombing on from our CBs.

Jake Wright plays... Sheffield United win.

Not rocket science is it?

Blimey, I thought it was Paul Coutts plays, Sheffield United win? Before the season it was, Billy's our only striker... I trust Wilder and, from what I see, Stearman is far better than Wright and should keep his position in the middle of the three.

Can Jake Wright comfortably play either side of RS, I'm not so sure.

He’s certainly not ‘comfortably’ better by any stretch.

Stearman's grown into that central role just in time...

See, that's where Rodders would say "it's all abart opinions young Herby". I can see Stearman improving but I'm still not settled on him. I don't feel like he's fully gelled into the side as yet and feel less convinced by him than Wright, like there's an error or two waiting to happen. Happy for him to carry on improving though, and to prove me wrong.

I don't mean to be dreary, but I often feary that Steary will cost us deary, shaft us up the reary and then we'll have to jeery.

Is Stearman left footed? He looks comfortable on it but took a free-kick on his right yesterday

Stearman is properly two footed, but he favours his right - he started out as a right back/centre back - but he will often choose to use his left foot for one of his accurate raking passes if the angle favours it.
