LUNDSTRAM

Lundstrum did well again. He's really come on in last few games - as he has found his feet in the side. Still only a young man, getting his first taste of Championship football.

I had a funny feeling he'd score the first goal but as usual didn't put my money where my mouth is

Lundstram has been our best player over the last couple of games. Strong and solid in the middle of the park and has been dictating play with a decent range of long and short passes, as well as a few surging runs forward.

I think it took a little while for him to settle in, which isn’t unusual for a relatively young player who has just made a move up in the footballing world. The few times I saw him I wasn’t greatly impressed but I had a feeling he would improve a lot given time, and that is coming to pass.

I’m sad that people were so quick to pass judgement on him being shit, because he wasn’t Paul Coutts, a couple of the old spunk trumpets who think they know it all because they saw United in the 70s who sit near me and LS26BLADE couldn’t wait to write him off as being absolute garbage but I preferred to give him a chance to settle down.

I think the comparison between Lundstram and Simon Francis are pretty daft. One is a dedicated young professional who is doing what he can to better himself and working hard for the betterment of the side, the other during his time at the Lane was little more than an immature child who enjoyed going out on the piss every weekend without fail who lacked the dedication to grasp the opportunity he was given at Bramall Lane and was rightly drummed out of the Lane. Great for him that he has made something out of his career, but it was the right thing to get rid of him at the time.

The comparison in the O.P. with Simon Francis was expanded on in a later post. It was not even Simon Francis' period at Bramall Lane that I was referring to. It was his period at Bournemouth where he joined them and contributed to their meteoric rise through 3 divisions, remained a key player throughout and captained them for years. in the top tier. I think Lundtram might just emulate Francis at Bournemouth, not by going to get pissed every night in S2 obviously.

The OP says 'The SUFC Simon Francis'. That in no way compares Lundstram to Francis when he was in S2.

In Post 2 on the thread there are 25 people who think I didn't even realise Francis played for us.

It was just a bit of an obtuse reference and I struggled to grasp where you was coming from and what the relevance between both players was, so and truth be told I’m still a little non-plussed.

As the bloke who sits next to me says, Lundstram looks like a real leader. He's big, powerful, covers a deceptively large amount of ground, and with time will come further improvement in his passing, touch and decision making.

He's better defensively than Coutts, but may never match his class on the ball. Though at 23 he can only improve...

Clayton Donaldson’s first against Villa came from a superbly executed long pass from Lundstram, and Lundstram also played a superb long pass to Donaldson that played a big part of the build up to his own goal

It's great to watch a midfielder full of confidence. Getting on the ball whenever possible and driving forward. Even when he made a mistake he doesn't hide and has enough bollocks to hold his hand up and go again.

Brilliant signing and is going to be a big player for us.

Coutts for example, doesn't do long through balls to create goal opportunites but Lundstram has it in his locker and we will see more and more as he feels more established in the team. It's a major plus in his play.

The big point is a player does not achieve 95% successful passes when he plays long balls which carry more risk. However those through balls create more goal opportunities and more importantly mix up play and stretch the opposition defence. With pace up front and a developing understanding between players, defence can be turned into attack instantly and the opposition have to sit that bit deeper too.

I reckon we will recruit some pace in January and we need to utilise it.

Fair enough, but I can't explain it any better.

Unless I say The Sheffield United Billy Bremner. Or the Sheffield United Tony Adams. You know captains , leaders and influential players over long periods of success; talismen.

Sky MOTM last night and thoroughly deserved.

Great energy throughout
Fantastic ball for the goal, showing the vision that I wasn't sure he had

Looks a much better player than when he arrived

He's improving all the time like the majority' of our team.weve only gone backwoods in one area upfront
and hopefully Clarke and co will get there mojo back now for the run in.

Lundstram sees far too much of the ball in the final third. Awful decision making when a pass or multiple passes are on, not to mention his finishing.

We've just won, why use this as an oppurtunity to slate Lundstram?

You could have praised him for his vision, long-range passing, work rate, stamina, composure .... but you decided to stick the boot in.

Haha it’s just the third or fourth game I’ve seen it happen. Don’t get me wrong he can start a move perfectly well but he frustrates me in the final third. Rant over I feel better now. You’re a good egg Lundstram

He had his best game yet in a blades shirt
yes here gave it away a few times but he was involved in a lot tonight ,definitely getting better

He was excellent again last night! Got on the ball so much and kept it going forward a majority of the time.

The pre season game with Duffy and Holmes I don’t see happening again. But when Evans came on Lundstram got even better.

Hopefully this is his season!

I can see Lundstram improving this year. Imo he grew into last season after a slow start - he’s now fully embedded here and has shown an eye for goal.

I know he’s not coutts but if he could move the ball a fraction quicker we’d have a very good player on our hands.

Great to hear. Did he make Donny look like a third tier team ?

He just needs to learn to stay switched on defensively, off the ball. If he could learn that, he's an absolute unit, and we could have a real player on our hands.
