Awesome and more to come....where are all the haters and know nowts.........shhhhhh!
I don’t like this sort of post.

Give them a chance to say how he’s played, it will go a long way mate.

All he needs to do is stop that shitty pirouette move when in possession... He's been caught out in 3 different games doing that.

Well played today. Great pass for the goal and put a good shift in. When Fleck comes back we'll be fine.

He had a very very good game today, but he did lose the ball a few times as well. Getting better every game though so well done to him. Big boots to fill but I think he is stepping up to the mark slowly but surely, as is Stearman - the new scapegoat

Still room to improve, but certainly much improved today. Long way to go to reaching Coutts/Fleck levels for impact and consistency.

He gets a round of applause from me today, and i'm not his biggest fan,but he did well.
Most fans couldn't stand Coutts for over a season but his qualities shone through in the end.Luniie has still only played a handful of games for us.He's making a better fist of it than Coutts did in his early matches.Give the fella a break.

Not a problem alco and thanks for not going off on one as SOME of our forum members do.........so what did the flip chart on August 31st in the Bleacher report, have Lundy down as replacement for Fleck?

Think Lundstram has dome much better than expected, but for me his just doesn't link play between the thirds. He does (and it happens a few times in a game) gets caught in possession - as seen again tonight.

There will be at least one ball playing CM player in the JTW - and it won't be Fleck that won't play.

He does get caught in possession more than Coutts does, but he carries the ball forward more, making that more likely. We were never going to find an identical replacement.

Given the length of time it can take for players to find their feet (take Coutts himself) then I’m pleased wiith him.

I agree with you - it is the best we can put out - doesn't mean to say that we can't do better come January.

Our results now and our league position is matching exactly what Barnsley did last season - good start, crap finish. We actually have a JTW that can ultimately change our season one way or another as against the dingles that sold 3 last JTW.

For me we need 2 x CM players that can make a difference in the final third.

Once again we had 39% of possession today when we were generally dominating games home and away previously.

The JTW will bring replacements - 4 in - 4 out according to CW - just hope it's in positions that can have an effect.

Possession means little in terms of results as the game is decided by goals.

So many games have we dominated and not won. Recently a thread showed just how many and I think we had 37% at Hillsborough.

Perhaps Wilder is learning to be not quite so 'gung-ho', perhaps not. Perhaps Villa were a good side but Wednesday certainly were not.

Wins more ball than Coutts on the deck and in the air.

Shouldn't really be comparing him to Coutts though, chalk and cheese.

Nothing like Fleck either.

I could see the three of them playing together with Lundstram deeper than the other two. No Duffy role then, more solid against top teams. Bring Duffy/ Brooks on later in the game to play that 'No.10 role'

Lundstram potentially a future captain.

Key passes 10 this season 2 assists.( probably 3 now) in 916 minutes played.

Coutts 15 key 0 assists.in 1300 minutes played.

Chalk and cheese.

Fans at every club are overcritical at times because they care so much, but also our fans need to be patient with Lundstram. He's come up from a mid table League One team, having only spent one season in League One and anyone who's played sport at any level knows that most times when you step up it can take a time of adjustment to repeat good form from the lower level. He clearly has what it takes and I think will prove to be another quality Wilder signing.

At Everton big things were expected from him, and he played regularly for England from under 17 - under 20's (Wikipedia yes!) but as with so many youngsters coming through he wasn't able to make the break through but we'll be the main beneficiary of that. He looks better with every game and I see no reason why he can't be a real mainstay for years - until he is sold probably!

He was much, much better but Villas centre midfield had no pace at all. No chance of being caught out of position.

Why start another Lundstram thread?

This one is different as it is not a 'Wanker of the week' type thread.

Good lad and plenty of us identified this a few weeks back. It was always clear he would need consistent game time to settle in and he is now looking every inch, a Championship player.

His biggest drawback is that he is not Coutts and sadly I think a few still don't rate him for that.

Read my post i have given him a break, btw Sordell is the man to see for breaks.

He still has a monkey on his back tho,we have still only won 1 league match where he has started going all the way back to the Ipswich game.I tink.

Yesterday was his best game offensively,he needs to work on his defensive side of the game i would like to see him get closer to oppo midfielders not just follow them around like a puppy, there must be some GSD in him ;)

Not a fan of Lundstrum but he did very well last night.
Why are you not a fan of Lundsrum has he let us down he is a different player to Coutts.
Our style is bound to change as Lunnie plays a more direct game than Coutts which means turnover will happen more often as he goes for positive pass rather than a keep possession ball.
He does add something different to our style progression will happen as players are replaced.
We have played some great stuff with Coutts in there ,our style will change ( it has to ) but we will I'm sure continue to play on the front foot with all the excitement that brings.
Our midfield has been decimated of late but Lunnie continues to impress.

He was bloody good last night. Best midfielder on the park that's for sure.

Interesting listening to Chris after the match about performance stats, saying that John is right up there with Coutts in terms of pass accuracy and possession. He also showed that he can do the Fleck role as well, driving us forward through the middle, the opposition players couldn't get near him at times.

His best performance to date and very encouraging. The prospect of him and Fleck together is suddenly very appealing.

Never mind how good he is - as he’s all we’ve got at present and without him we’d be in real shit!!

I just cheer him on to be the best that he can be for now. We can worry about him long term when there’s competition for his shirt.

When he started he lost the ball a lot and tried loads of long Coutts type cross field balls which failed. He has cut out the Hollywood balls but still tries to beat people and loses it, rather than just play a simple pass.

I think Tufty and Knill will coach that out of him and he will become a very solid squad player. I noticed yesterday that he needs to stop waving his arms in the air when he’s blocking as well, a pen waiting to happen.

So for now though it’s Lunny, Lunny, Lunny, Oi, Oi, Oi!!

Magic Takes Time

True, the game is decided by goals and we did well on 37% at h'boro - but we played 3-5-2 for 75% of the game and the midfield was stiffened by Basham in the 5. I don't mind the less of the gung-ho, especially away from home. CW hasn't managed at this level and no matter how many games he may have watched on TV, it is different. Norwich at BDTBL showed how to do it, all be it with a boring, negative approach.

The pleasing thing yesterday was we left Billy out away, which in the end gave us more options up top and as explained by CW, they wanted to exploit space down the channels - so yes, he IS learning to adapt and is great to see. We dug in and ground out a point - but we still didn't have what is required to pick the lock in the final third.
