A favourite of mine...

I'm not into fishing, but I'm guessing the guy in the 4th picture is holding a fishing-rod. It seems odd that he appears to be posing for the picture...with his zip undone. Is this the origin of the phrase 'fly-fishing', perhaps?
It's a convenient pocket when help is needed to support the end of the rod o_O

I'm guessing late seventies/early eighties and the kid will be around fifty now. I had a coat like that (as did loads of kids). I think they were called snorkel coats, like a nylon parka with a big hood that stuck out and if you didn't have your wits about you some kid would grab the front of the hood, screw it up so you couldn't see then give you a quick punch in the head. For a laugh, as you did in those days.

Must have been cold that day if you could play footy in a coat.

Coat? You were lucky etc etc etc

It’s Ernest Stamford, who had a tackle shop on Attercliffe Common, designed and made excellent rods and won dozens of big matches.
Really nice fella, top man
That's interesting, never been fishing or met Ernest Stamford but have done work for his son John in the past. Lost contact now, is the business still on the go? I hope so, like his father John is a really nice fella. A pleasure to work for him had some laughs. Thanks for the info, strange how things come about.

I had one too and thought it was the dog's bollocks.

I was only 8 though.

Mine was a green parka, with white fur around the collar,I got it just in time to see the Blue Peter presenters and the Flying Scotsman in Donny,I also thought it was the canine testicles of coats

I remember wearing one with the hood out like that when getting in a scrap. The kid I was fighting grabbed the furry bit and through me all over the place before kicking the shit out of me. It felt like I was in a washing machine.
