Old Photos For No Reason Whatsoever

Hmm, seems you're right. A Vauxhall Viva Mk1 perhaps? I did spot a Ford Consul behind the Leyland truck and a Hillman Imp going up the Moor besides it though!

Yes Sir! A Vauxhall Viva HA it is :)

Your Hillman Imp spot reminded me that I recently suggested to Lady Woodwaaard that I'd quite fancy a Sunbeam Stilleto
Her reply was "Don't be so bloody stupid"
So I didn't

Sad to see a great building like that demolished for ultimately no real reason. Where they eventually stuck the egg box there were also fine old buildings that were demolished, the main one I think being a bank. Building with clock tower was Walker and Halls factory which stretched down Howard St. and was a very large complex.

The number of old cars I've suggested over the years to my missus only to be met by the same reply. I'd be very rich by now! I turned down a Jaguar Mk 2 for £3k about 10 years ago, it was a minter too. The biggest problem was persuading her to empty the garage of her crap so I could store it there. I should have traded it for the wife with hindsight.

The Banner Cross, my old local. My maternal grandparents met here during World War 2, my grandma's auntie was the landlady. And in 1999, I had my first date with Mrs SV in there. They used to serve some of the best Tetley's I've ever had.
Seem to remember that you could always get a decent pint of Tetleys in Sheffield.
I drank quite a lot in a sad (and totally unsuccessful) attempt to be a Tetley Bitterman.
(I don't think the BHS pullover helped much either)

I once went on a tour of the brewery in Leeds, a good day out, they made some very good bitters and stouts. I believe it has now been replaced by an IKEA.

First pint I ever had was a Tetley Bitter, in the old Turf Tavern at Handsworth. Proper head in a straight glass, served at the right temperature. Seems to have almost disappeared that original Northern bitter with a head. Probably struggle to get the staff to be able to serve it properly now.

Alongside TC, my all time hero. Joe, not his Mum Marj :) If I recall, that was taken in their back room at 38 Tasker Road after he'd come back from the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour, during which I'm sure he imbibed plenty of things, but probably not much tea.....

It's almost sacrilege to put up a picture of a Leeds building, don't you think :-) It's not quite IKEA next door, it's ASDA's head office and the Tetley's building is now an arts centre and café. I only know that because it was walking distance from Trig Jnr (TY)'s old flat in Leeds and we went there a few times.

Obviously in't back room, his mum wouldn't have let him use the front room - that was only for if someone posh turned up and maybe family gatherings at Christmas (if there were too many to fit in't back room :))

Bert thinks he saw that photo of Joe one Christmas in The Star, however Bert is in Amsterdam right now and there has been a lack of communication between him and his memory today.

Yes, I did wonder if I'd get some flak for that - but it isn't specifically a Sheffield thread, so I thought I'd chance it. I thought the building had gone, so that's good that they've kept it - SCC would have bulldozed it and had anyone objecting arrested. Still, turning a brewery into IKEA/ASDA, arts centre, café, whatever and then brewing a well loved Yorkshire beer outside Yorkshire is something to be angry about, surely.

Spot the car.

459 EXN is definitely a Ford Classic as my old Uncle George had one. I think it was supposed to be Ford's attempt at the winged beasts like Cadillac had in the late 50s but a little bit more reserved and English.

At the bottom left, with Mercedes like rear light cluster, is a Ford Cortina. My sister had a boyfriend who had the GT version in white with a green stripe. It was the dogs bollocks and very trendy in the 60s.

Not sure of the one at a jaunty angle across the road, but possibly a Ford Anglia and on the right, behind the lorry is possibly a Vauxhall Victor.

The whitish car coming towards you and next to the ubiquitous Morris Minor is, I think, a Ford Zephyr.

I'm sure others may be able to help with the possibles.
On the left Cortina, Anglia, Cortina or Anglia est, Cortina, Anglia turning, behind that a Hillman imp. Coming towards the camera alongside the Imp a Ford Consul, BMC FG horse box a Zephyr 4 and Vauxhall Victor. Parked on the right looks like a sit up and beg Pop hidden by the truck, a HA Viva, Moggy 1000, Prefect est, Austin 1100.
Anyone owning a white Cortina with the green stripes did have the dogs bollocks of a car, they were the Lotus version 1600 twin cam nothing could get close to them when raced.

Here's a Blades/Fulham double agent sporting a VERY 70s haircut...

They say it were grim. We have the evidence

It was certainly grim back then. I had the first eight years of my life just off Carlisle St. If we had snow it was black in a few hours. Todays Jack's and Tarquins would have been on a life support machine within a fortnight.

I used a Abu 505 a couple of weeks ago. Bought it in about 1970. Never had to do any repairs or service and It still works like new.

I had a 506, and I’ve still got (and use) my old Mitchell 300 - when you see some of the Chinese shit being sold these days, you wonder how they’re still in business

In front of the Cortina is, I think, a Rover, a Morris Marina estate and an Austin 1100.
