There's a sideline - worst performance in which we won?
I think the aforementioned 2-1 v Fulham on 28.12.85 and 1-0 v Carlisle on 1.1.86 would be worthy contenders in that category.

Shield your eyes now. 24th Sept. 1996. Blades 2 Stockport 5. Our scorers G. Taylor and Petr Katchouro. Crowd: 6,850. Second leg, second round of the Coca Cola League Cup (we'd lost the first leg at Shrewsbury 1-2, Vonk.)
Michael Bridges tore us apart that day. To be fair that was an excellent Sunderland team that I think won the legue
That' about the right time. Only so many rugby tackles you can get away with. Seem to remember a home game when he could have been sent off a couple of times for getting out paced by Steve ClaridgeWasn't it also Steve Bruce's last game as a player after getting roasted by Bridges?

Deano scored a good header v Plymouth to win 1-0. Are you thinking of the Oxford game? The Vale game was the penultimate home match same season following Easter Monday defeat at Leeds.A couple spring to mind. The 10 v 8 Portsmouth game won with a Paul Marriner own goal and Plymouth at home under Basset, 1989. Again an own goal secured the win. Port Vale at home the following season came close (a last minute Deano winner) but at that stage of the season it was a case of not caring about the performance as long as we won.

Not a classic but they all count in promotion. Sometimes the ugly ones feel more special. I remember when we fell behind to vale (beckford) and Newcastle we’re winning so we looking to fall further behind in third. That’s why it was such a relief when he scored. I think that’s a claim to fame being there for that one but not a pleasant one pal!Might be N20. Remember the Plymouth game as being dire though and yes, you are right about Deano's header. And thanks for reminding me of that Leeds game. I was one of the "lucky" ones to get one of the 900 tickets they gave us!![]()
"0-5, 0-5, 0-5, 0-5"United 0 Oldham 5
Still stands head and shoulders above the other crap 30 years on.
The team:
Leaning
Todd
Pike
Kuhl
Stancliffe
Smith
Morris
Philliskirk
Mendonca
Dempsey
Frain
Subs (both used): Beagrie and...Wilder
That was 2 January 1988. United had lost 4-1 at Blackburn the day before, and 3-1 at Millwall on 28 December.
The obvious Walsall H 81, Oldham H 88, Port Vale H 99 have to be up there in the top 10.
Wigan away 2016 under Adkins and we went 3-0 down (again). What should have been a marvellous fighting comeback to 3-3, was still shit

Another vote for this - their keeper (Joe Lewis)was rubbing his arms in a ‘ I’m freezing cos I’ve got fuck all to do ‘ in an attempt to rile the Blades behind him - he actually got a laugh ...... losing to Pompey by 3 and Crewe by 1 in successive away games under Morgs in 2013 were also mind bendingly inept showings.....1-0 night match at peterborough, think mackail smith scored for them, most inept blades away performance i was at as a spectator, probably been worse displays, but not that i was there for
Yep , I was there , Ironside would have been more effective in his wheelchair, not read through this whole thread but looks like I’m just agreeing with horror shows already suggested!Carlisle United 1 Sheffield United 0, 14 September 2013.
Lovely day, nice local ale followed by one of the most insipid, comatose performances I've ever seen against an awful Carlisle team who went down, had two points from six games at that point and had lost two of their previous three home games 5-1 and 4-0.
Weirball at its finest.
Seconded thirded and fourthed. Absolutely putrid .Watford 3 - Blades 0 in Feb 2010. Nosworthy and Jordan stewart in the back four. No wonder we got mullered.
My old Nan would have saved it.Givens penalty was saved by Ron Green

That was the only enjoyment from that game!
Because it wasn't particularly "inept"?I notice that through 11 pages nobody has mentioned 26th December 1979.
Left that at half-time as I was with a qpr mate from work and it was total toilet, we went into town and got absolutely smashed. My mate had a dodgy pie before the game though so was off work for the rest of the week, so it was a night he's never forgotten! As an aside, were there any wonder kids for AFC that night? What about the embarrassment of losing to arsenals kids 6-0 under kackwell?
Oxford 4 United 1 1996. One of the few games Paul Parker played for us.

Strangely enough there were some far worse performances than that during that season. It was a shock rather than inept.
Thank you, I'd forgotten how strong our side was (on paper) that night but remember only Morgan actually looking bothered.
