Miserable old gits

Exactly so. You don't have to be old to be a git or, more specifically, a loud mouthed boring twat.

I well remember when the John Street stand first opened, me and my mate thought it would be a good idea to move there and experience these new, state of the art facilities. Bad idea.

To begin with, we were surprised how basic it was but even worse was the guy we finished up sitting in front of. He was only mid 30's but had one of those annoying voices that could be heard from 50 yards away, even when he wasn't shouting.

He had with him a henchman who he would talk to none stop throughout the game about anything and everything to do with himself, but nothing about the match going on in front of him. Within 10 minutes of the first game starting I knew what kind of car he drove, where he was going on holiday and what make of fridge he was planning to buy.

It drove me fucking crazy and after 3 matches I couldn't take it any more so we found 2 other seats which were in a worse position but well worth the move just to get away from that loud mouthed, egocentric twat.

He wasn't a "henchman" He's my butler.

Mercedes? Cuba? And are you sure it wasn't a hostess trolley?
Bert has never sat in the family stand and after 5 Benz's he has changed supplier. You will however be delighted to know that last Friday he flew back to the UK from Cuba, went to the match and the next day flew to Italy. He is now taking the waters in Montecatini.

NYB knew that, but you still bit :)

Bert rearranged his schedule accordingly.
The ironic thing was, that after flying halfway across the world, whilst at the game pommpey was telling Bert that he would only go to The Lane if Bert paid for his ticket, hotel and taxis as he lived too far away.

Well, after all Bert's dickwaving about 'Benz's', Cuba, Italy etc, etc ... one would imagine he would be able to stump up the £17-£20k per year it would take to fund pommpey's travel and accommodation to attend games. Pommpey can't afford it, unfortunately but it still doesn't stop him supporting the Blades, mind. The measure of one's assets never was the measure of club loyalty, it seems.

When CCV missed his clearance today I had two behind me called him a bomb scare. I thought he was excellent today and looks a proper footballer. I love wright but I'm starting to see why Wilder is playing this lad ahead of him.

Generally though, people around me are a good bunch, although I'm still shocked by how many urge the team to get it forwards earlier. Has the last 12 months taught them nothing?

I must be honest mate, I think we should look to get the ball forward earlier. I'm not talking about route one football, but I think sometimes our build up play is too intricate, too much passing and switching from side to side when it's really calling out for a killer ball forwards for an attacker to run onto.

At times it's like we are trying to find the perfect pass to create a chance. We see this a lot around the edge of the 18 yards box. It's really like we are trying to walk it in at times and the reluctance of any one player to try and create an opening to have a shot at goal can be frustrating.

I thought this at Forest the other week and against Ipswich last saturday. We played some great possession football and were swarming all over them like bees, but then it turns into a game of cat and mouse, attack v defence almost, on the edge of the oppositions box. And we're just not getting shots away on target. I don't think the Ipswich goalie had a shot to save in that first half.

If that sounds like criticism, then it's not meant to be negative at all. I think we are playing some wonderful stuff and I'm really enjoying watching it. But, if we want to turn more of that possession into goals then we need to break quicker and catch them on the hop, exposed at the back. The goals from Donaldson at Sunderland and Clarke at Hillsborough are good examples of us finding the killer pass forward, early, for a striker to run onto. We need to do more of that. And maybe we need more players in Jan who can play in that kind of fast counter-attacking role. Someone a bit like Jamie Murphy perhaps - he was a great exponent of that.

It's about balance I think. Donaldson's goal was fantastic play from him and Sharp. 4 or 5 touches from back to front and a goal. I think if that doesn't come off it's sometimes better to keep the ball, probe, move the opposition about and then strike. I think we've got the balance about right since September last year :)
