Brooks Fee

I was told on Saturday by someone working at the club that we have had interest from klopp and Everton and it was tens of millions. Not ten million, tens of millions.

He said that he has heard McCabe say personally that he won't be sold in January.

Not what Vern told me, although to be fair to the old lad he took a lot of head shots back in the day when he fought in Gypsy bare knuckle fights, so his stories do have an element of "what the fuck" about them.

But he's cheap, and reminds of of Lenny Mclean.

He's no Paul Sykes though is he?

Why are we talking about this? NOT FOR SALE at any price.

WE ARE NO LONGER A SELLING CLUB!!!

Every player has his price and every team (apart from Real Madrid, PSG and Man City are selling clubs).

It’s always difficult to put a fair valuation on potential.
He’s hardly played first team football but could end up a top PL player.

In this stupid market of inflated prices he’s probably worth £15 million
But a massive factor is we don’t need to sell this season and the rewards of reaching the PL would make £15 million look like loose change, so we should start the bidding at £20 million and I think 20 mil will cool any interest from PL clubs.

I seriously don’t think we will sell him this January whilst we have a realistic chance of promotion.
However fail to gain promotion and he could be gone next season for around 10 to 15 million with add-ons.

I hate these self-flagellating, masochistic threads.
Let's be positive! Maybe, just maybe, Brooks has got his head screwed on and wants to stay with us.

HighfieldBlade I love the thought that Brooks might be possessed of that type of attitude, and who knows, maybe the lad knows where his bread is buttered....but, given that he'll have an agent, then the advice I think he'll receive will be about securing an agreement that will line his pockets now and for the future. To be honest this type of scenario is circular and restricted to a few pertinent questions. Why did Maguire leave the Blades? Some suggest sunburn on the Costs Del Bramall, but more realistically it was to do with earning the type of money that would enable him to buy a house, maybe two, and still be able to live well. You can't blame any player for taking this type of opportunity, you or I would jump at the chance, all with the proviso that your performances are consistently good, enabling you nudge the interest of the manager who signs you.

I'd love to see DB spend a few seasons at United, he's a player that can light up a game - just recall that nutmeg against the wendy defender! - you can teach attitude, how to train, how to apply yourself, but his type of skill is a gift that you nurture, that you treat with care and attention, and I think we all recognise a player who has the talent to be as good as he wants to be.

Its bad enough the press speculating let alone our fans! I wouldn't sell him this January for literally any money because he is too valuable to our promotion push. Whatever he would go for, we won't get a like for like player, there aren't any in our league and in the Prem that we could afford or who would want to come. Brooks could win us promotion, as could the team as a whole but I would rather him see out this season and in the summer if he goes then it gives us longer to replace him.

It also sends out a message to our rivals that we're willing to let our better players go.

You're right IIYB he probably does have an agent but he also has a mum and dad and I wouldn't be surprised if they are helping to keep him evenly grounded.

It's been reported on here somewhere that his mum has said just how much he is enjoying himself at the Lane. That will mean a lot to them. I think they trust our owners, management team and I think that the statement by Wilder saying he won't be going anywhere in January will have come from DB and his family.

If we reinvest the fee back into the first te....

... sorry....

Wilder has also said that Brooks isn't going anywhere in January. Given the type of guy Chris is I'll side with his take on Brooks' future. If DB continues to impress all well and good, and no doubt today's valuation would increase with each performance from Brooks. Just make sure that there's a 20% add-on (no cock-ups from our transfer negotiator please) from any future sale.

Worst case scenario - CW says he's not going anywhere, Board disagrees and sells him, CW gets upset and leaves.

The talk amongst Liverpool fans that I know here and after speaking to someone who works at Liverpool's acedemy. They're putting a £10 million offer together for brooks!!. I don't think they'll succeed because wilder has already stated that brooks is going nowhere!!. Brooks is priceless to our promotion push!!. In wilder we trust. Utb

£10 million is peanuts for a club like Liverpool. They can’t rate him that highly.

Fortunately for us he’s under contract, not a pre-Madonna and there’s no pressure to sell him this season.
So it will take a stupid offer for us to even consider it and even then I doubt we’d sell.

The offer needs to be near £20 million to have a chance and I can’t see any PL club bidding so high.
I’m pretty confident he’ll stay the whole season.

However if we fail to gain promotion then next season could be too tempting for both the player and SU.
If we gain promotion then I’d expect Brooks to sign a new long contract with us and stay.

Some of the figures people are touting are outlandish, but then so is the transfer market right now. With the fees spent in the last window it's not even outrageous to imagine a team in this division could bid a good few million, never mind if the Prem teams come calling.

What I do think is that Brooks, however good he's looked so far, is still a talent with less than a handful of first team starts under his belt. So far he's got the luxury of a young player who has little responsibility on the pitch, being free to roam and run at players and do the exciting things while the rest of the team take care of the graft. He needs protecting a bit and he also needs to learn that until he's producing it on a consistent basis like a Mark Duffy can that potential isn't all there is. The games from now until the JTW will be where Brooks shows his worth.

Let's be realistic, there's a price for which we'd say yes and that's okay. If someone offers 50m, we'd be better off with the money than one player. If it's 5m I think better offers will come in the Summer.

Personally I'd set the bidding at a mostly arbitrary 14m plus add-ons. It's outrageous enough to put bids off, but not so outrageous that in this insane game that it would stop someone actually doing it. It's also the kind of money that I think Wilder could acquire some very good players with that would benefit the overall team more than a single player with potential. For now it needs to be feet on the ground. Brooks needs to earn his place in the side and that's honestly going to be tough for him.

The most important thing is we keep the good results coming in. The better we're doing, the easier it is to keep him happy where he is, the less we need the money, and the higher we can push the bids if other clubs are knocking at the door.
