To me, the original Tom and Jerry cartoons are timeless (the original 1940's ones). About a decade ago, I took the family to Brazil on holiday. One day we had a tropical storm, so stayed in the hotel room, found a channel showing old back-to-back Tom and Jerry, we were all killing ourselves laughing. Same thing happened a few years earlier at home, Sunday afternoon, raining, skimming through channels, found a channel showing old Laurel and Hardy, the kids started moaning "oh, not black and white stuff", I said just watch for a few minutes and see if you like it. It was the one delivering the Piano, and they ended up howling with laughter.

Good stuff is just good stuff.

For the record, I loved Top Cat and the Flintstones as well!, both had subtle jokes and references that adults would get.

Good job it wasnt like that in the 1960's and 70's or we would never have had Carry On films!

And going back a bit further, today's Holier Than Thou seekers of the moral high ground would have had a birthday with Shakespeare, Dickens ,Samuel Taylor Coleridge etc etc etc .... to the point where most of our great literary heritage would have been erased from history, had they been around at the time. Fortunately they were not, but I am concerned that the Religion based Victorian values which my generation fought hard to overturn, and were praised for at the time, now seem to have been replaced by an even more insidious set of values by people who describe themselves as 'liberals'
