Brooks For Wales

The Welsh strategy is to push youngsters through early.

Depending on the state of the games coming up, he could well get a late sub appearance. He's a great outlet to run at tiring defences.

Back to United, hopefully he sees playing games now as more valuable than being a fringe player at a PL club despite the money. Everton could be a danger, very close to home and more likely to pick him.

We need him to stay.

Kid seems very level headed from what i've in interviews hopefully he has a same minded agent and also appreciates what sure have done for him can see him seeing the season out with us.
Benchmark for me is lookman £11m to everton in terms of transfer fee

Lookman was playing league 1 football. Oxlade chamberlain was playing league 1 football before he went to Arsenal for £12m.

Brooks with a full season in the championship should be starting at £15m and going up from there.

Not that I want him selling....ever

I just hoped that Brooks would go onto England, probably not with us but he is certainly a potential full international.
Me too, when Wilder's allowed to do the England job part time (alongside his real job), he'll need talents like Brooks to bring the team on.

Why? Who cares about England. Im not even Welsh and at this point I would rather play for Wales than England.

I have absolutely no interest in the English national side.

I don't really get it to be honest mate! Maybe he just prefers his Welsh ancestry to his English, I don't know, but if he's chosen Wales on footballing reasons then I think he can still play for England.

I wish hi well though obviously, he seems a really decent lad too but just wanted to see him in an England shirt one day!

He's not willing to wait for England, that's his choice, and it could prove costly for him (endorsements etc) but what level is he likely to get to? It's probably the smart move if he's impatient.
This pushes up his profile, gets him noticed, he may even go to the world cup in the summer. He wouldn't get any of that with England at least for another couple of seasons as he's just not at that level yet.

London calling anyone?
Heard someone else talking about Everton as mentioned above but with DB playing alongside our loanees from Chelski & Spurs, it must be like having mini-scouts in the place all the time. I'd have thought they must be talking to their clubs about him.
I want him to stay with us for ever as he's the classiest, most prestigious talent I've seen with huge potential. He's only 20 and is making seasoned pro's (and the wendy defenders) look like pussies with his skill, pace and increasing strength. What's he gonna be like if he fills out a bit!?!?
Anyway, when the transfer window(s) open and the bids start coming in - which they will - let's hope Everton, Chelski & Spurs show some interest which will ignite others to do the same.
We can they have a bidding war like the late '80's property market and sell him for a £100ktrillion so we can buy Jordan Rhodes.
Sorted. ;)

I don't think he can if we select him in either match. I've no issue with any players with loose Welsh ancestry playing for the team, mainly because I'd be a complete hypocrite if I thought otherwise – born in Leicester, but a Welsh dad and all that side of the family hails from Wales. My first memory of watching the Welsh side is the infamous Bodin penalty, and there was then a period where I was much more interested in watching any internationals United players played in (mainly the Norway team), but I then started following the Wales team more closely in the Page era. And it's been a lot of fun doing so – I've at no stage ever felt drawn to watching the England team.

Alan Knill is from Slough but played internationally once - in a World Cup qualifier for Wales against the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

I support two teams internationally due to my heritage. My Dads side hails from Chile but its distant now, but I still support them, been twice to Chile too and its an amazing place. But ultimately Brooks, like me, is English and I think since he is good enough to potentially represent England it seems a tad early to choose Wales. He chose England in the summer but now has gone back to Wales. I hope its the right move for him to be fair.

I've loved supporting England too, but I did cheer for Wales when Page was there too!

Fairplay to him, as an England fan gutted he's chosen Wales but not at all surprised. Wales are like us, they are a team, they play for each other, not world class talents (apart from Brooks) but they never give up and are passionate about playing for Wales, England atm are more like Villa, lots of big talents but too many egos and not enough players giving 100%.

I've always thought England were a bit like Wednesday: an overinflated view of themselves despite having done very little of note, big name players that consistently fail to perform, and supported by a fucking annoying band that's an embarrassment to football.

Another fair reflection, but given I still support England and want them to do well, I'd rather not compare them to those lot.

It's a good sign that he's staying with us. It's very rare that one of our players is chosen to represent England.

If that's the case he may be thinking that he'll get international honors elsewhere.
That's extremely naive to think it's a good sign he's staying with us. The decision has been made on what will give him the best chance to play international football, because international football will raise his profile and his value. So, it's actually more likely to lead to him leaving than staying.

We need him to want to stay and we need McCabe to not want to sell him. That's all it takes really. Part 2 of that is the difficult bit.

As much as I like the sentiment, I think you'll find Bale makes all the difference for Wales.

Congratuations to Brooks for getting called up - it's a testament to how well he has been playing. As an England fan, I'm disappointed he wont pull the three lions on. But I can totally understand why he has picked Wales. They have done well recently and give up and coming players a chance - and dont have the "must play for" Man United/Spurs/Arsenal/Liverpool syndrome to be picked. Some right toss has gone in the England side because they play for the chosen clubs (Smalling, Phil Jones etc).

When he leaves BL (as much as I want him to stay - but it's inveviatable) - at least having international caps will add millions onto his value.

England need to really look at this - they are missing out on young talent.

I used to watch all England games now I can't be bothered to even find out when they're playing, the above makes a match much more interesting to me.

Big Jostein and Roger Nilsen tended to be our most capped in the mid-90s. I think they and Alan Kelly were in their countries' squads for USA '94, though I think only Flo played any matches.

The thing is, the big clubs Hoover up all the talent. If there's anyone actually decent playing for a smaller PL club, they get bought by a big one. It's not like the old days where you got players as good as anyone in the league playing for a smaller club, like TC with us, or Le Tissier at Saints. If a player is good enough for a top six club, he'll soon end up at one. So if Robson-Kanu was as good as Kane he'd be playing in the champions league. Like Kane is.

The reasons why top players don't reproduce their club form for England is another debate but I don't agree with the idea that the players Southgate picks aren't the best available and that players playing for Stoke or WBA are better, they're not and they'd look even shitter in an England side than the players look now, which I accept is hard to imagine.
