Transfer Deadline day is upon us. Confirmed deals below

INS

Alan Gow: Rangers to Norwich - Loan for remainder of Season

OUTS

Think Gow would have been a good signing for us...am starting to get concerned that we might not get anyone in :(

for those of you who are stuck at work on this snowny day :D here's what the link above says.........

SHEFFIELD United have had to dramatically alter their transfer window plans ahead of today's deadline for new signings.
Although the Championship club are refusing to distance themselves from reports linking Manchester City duo Darius Vassell and Ched Evans with Bramall Lane, The Star understands that Andy Gray had been poised to make an emotional return to South Yorkshire only for the deal to collapse when the Charlton Athletic striker was ruled out for the season with a broken foot.

Sources close to The Valley report that Kevin Blackwell approached his opposite number Phil Parkinson about the 31-year-old before Saturday's 0-0 draw at Preston North End; a result which ensured United remain fifth in the table with 16 games left.

Having scored 28 goals during an 18-month spell at United earlier in his career, Gray was viewed as the perfect addition to a squad which, after seeing James Beattie join Stoke three weeks ago, needs reinforcements for the run-in.

Charlton's precarious finances, combined with a miserable run which has left them teetering on the brink of relegation, meant Parkinson was prepared to do business.

The London club preferred to strike a permanent deal as opposed to United's offer of a temporary contract, but negotiations had reached an advanced stage before disaster struck.

With Gray now expected to be out for around four months, Blackwell has been forced to look elsewhere but, should a breakthrough prove elusive before the 5pm cut-off point, he remains confident of success in the loan market when the Premier League concludes its business this evening.

Speaking after their gutsy display at Deepdale Sam Ellis, United's assistant manager, acknowledged the need for new faces but refused to shed any light on Blackwell's targets.

He said: "The gaffer has got some irons in the fire but we won't be speaking about anything until it is done. We're stretched at the moment and those lads put their bodies on their line out there. They need help and they deserve help."

United, who created the better opportunities against Preston and saw a Stephen Quinn effort controversially disallowed, are also steeling themselves to receive hostile bids for Kyle Naughton, being monitored by Aston Villa, Sunderland, Newcastle and Arsenal, and transfer-listed goalkeeper Paddy Kenny.

Chris Morgan is a major doubt for tomorrow's trip to Southampton after suffering a hamstring injury at Deepdale.

I'll use my crystal ball to see what the official word will be after the loan window closes...

"We had a look at a couple of players, but there wasn't anyone available who would fit into the team and make an improvement, so we've decided to stick with the squad we've got."

Then, the inevitable slip down the table as our already painfully thin squad starts to succumb to injuries and suspensions and we don't score enough goals to keep us in the chase...

What I find harder to believe is that people thought it would be any different to this. This is Sheffield United we're talking about here.

I think that quote was related to the Trialists we had in, rather than general transfers.

I don't think that quote was related to anything, as I made it up ;)

Sorry for the double post, but he's a real quote from the official site:

Forced to set off earlier than scheduled, Blackwell's availability to push through transfer plans before today's 5pm deadline will inevitably be hampered:

"It makes it very difficult now because it is almost impossible to do anything by phone when you are on the coach dealing with agents, manager and chairman.

"We would have left a lot later and I would have been better able to try and do business, but I will do whatever I can. We are well aware that we have two big games coming up, along with the FA Cup-tie, and we need more bodies, especially with some players very close to suspension.

What a fucking shit excuse. The window's been open for ages - as you should know, as you were only too keen to get rid of our leading goalscorer - so you shouldn't have left it til the last minute. Other teams have managed to get players in before today.

Excuse after excuse after fucking shit excuse. Blackwell is wearing my patience very thin indeed.

It may be an excuse, but it does make things difficult. Would have been a whole lot easier if we'd have been playing somewhere more local.

It's still a shit excuse though. It sounds like one of mine from my GCSE coursework days.

I would have been inetersted to see what kind of reaction the re-signing of Andy Gray received by the fans.

I really wish somone would ask Kevin Blackwell which current Sheffield United forward he thinks that Andy Gray is better then; being as how that is the yardstick when assessing possible new recruits.

With all due respect to Andy Gray, i couldn't think of a player who would leave me less enthused were they to sign for us.

i have to agree. gray just wouldnt have been a good signing. never particularly thought he was that good when he played for us before. i know that there is 3 hours left and much can happen but utd have said for the whole transfer window tat they want to sign 3 maybe 4 players. weve signed 1 unproven striker. brilliant utd. lets sell our best striker with a promise of a replacement and then piss everyone off by not getting one.

You weren't on a coach to Southampton on the coursework hand in day though... or were you? :D

I'd cut him less slack if signings were simple... but one of the issues is, our moves will most likely rely on other moves... so until others go through, we can maybe not push ours through. This is why its a valid excuse today.

On the Andy Gray one... The club rubbished the link long before The Star even created the story.

It makes things difficult for everyone, but it's not prevented Barnsley, Wolves and Norwich from making dealings today.

Blackwell must have been rubbing his hands together at the weather forecast, as it gave him a get out of jail free card. How thick does he think the fans are?

Perhaps as he seems to see fit to send Sam Ellis out at every available opportunity to talk to the press he could stay behind a bit and try to get some players in.

No one's saying signings are simple, but it seems like our system is light years behind everyone else's.

Doesn't matter though, does it, because we've got Chengdu Blades and Ferencvaros...

I know, it's just that the transfer window is open for a month. Not 12 hours. Like Matth says, it hasn't prevented other clubs from making deals.

Have to agree, and by the way can't our multi million pound academy get its finger out of it's arse, what's the point of having it if we rarely profit from it?

I hardly think Mr Davey will have been struggling to travel all the way to Hillsborough today? He's also signed players who have either been transfer listed or who don't need replacing from their parent clubs.... Hopefully the players we've been after will.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be as annoyed as anyone else if we don't make any signings...

But he's right when he says it's a difficultly... It'd have never been available as an excuse if the fixture creators put a bit of thought in the long Tuesday night trips.

I dont give a toss if it’s a tyfoon surly it’s more important to sort out team sighnings than traveling away with the team
whats sam ellis for?

I can see gates dropping if there's no movment

My sentiments exactly!

If we get an injury at Centre Half weve had it, If Henderson gets injured weve had it, in Centre Midfield as hard as players like Monty try, its not good enough & in the main under Blackwell we have tried to get the ball on the wings and get it into the box, yet at the moment we have no NATURAL wingers at the club that are good enough! It just goes to show with how narrow we are, which is why weve been thumping it long.... then I ask what are United doing other than letting all our players go for peanuts?
Answer:Nothing!
I know there is still time, but I just cant see it.
I dont want to seem like I feel its doom & gloom all the time but I've been to 90-95% of games this season & am continually supporting the Club financially and vocally and at the moment in particular am bewildered by United's attitude & actions.
I am also sick of this perception that by expressing your disappointment, not wanting to settle for second best & craving more than is being offered are negative traits as a supporter!
P.S. I am not saying that is on this site specifically just in general!

Spot on.

Seriously we need to pull a signing out of the hat.

Also its not filling me with confidence that by Saturday we may not have any new faces in the side against the pigs.

If we get an injury at Centre Half weve had it,

Morgs is out for a while, so barring any signings in that area I'd imagine Halford would be in... or Maxime Chanot ;)

I dont think that anybody would accept that signings are simple, and we are aware of the fact that certain moves are dependant on other moves etc, but the issue i have is this:

Yes the weather is causing issues, and i completely agree that flying down to Sothampton would be far the better option than coaching it down, but doncaster isnt the only airport around. L**ds Bradford isnt far away, neither is East Midlands or Manchester (Granted i dont know the details of available flights etc) but thats the first point. Being as the match is only a doubt and wont be confirmed on or off until tomorrow at 9am, this is still plenty of time to either fly (By finding alternative methods) or coach (Granted this is just assuming that they set off at 9am). Were they to set off before then, say 7am, this would mean that they would only be so far down the m1 before the decision was made.

Should the above actually happen, and working on the basis that the window is only open until 5pm today, this is still oppertunity to make the necessary moves etc to try and make the signings that we need.

And let me throw this in as another point, should the weather not be so bad and the airport at donny re-opens, the team head down to southampton as originally planned, what would happen then as far as signings? The team and staff would be in Southampton, where do the new signings go? who do they meet?

I accept that much of the above points are hypothetical, and there are alot of unknowns involved. I personally would just appreciate it more if they turned round and said look, we cant do it, we cant make the moves, we cant get the players. If they cant, then they cant. Sometimes it does just feel like pre-emptive excuses
