Derby outplaying Hull

I think we can discount them both from the list of likely runners and riders for the final shake-up..
Hull too unpredictable.. Derby too predictable.

The logic in this thread seems to go: rock beats scissors, and scissors beat paper; therefore rock must beat paper.
It's seriously flawed logic. Surely a more sensible conclusion would be; anybody can beat anybody in this division. We will upset plenty of teams at the Lane but not get much away from home.

Absolutely. I sit next to a bloke at the Lane. If we're not one up after 15 minutes he'll point out with utter conviction "...these lost 3-0 to Club X last week; we should be beating these..."

I suspect this does not happen 'only in S2'. It's the daft football fans' way.

What seems to have escaped all Wednesday fans, many local football journalists and some Blades, is that we are a good football team capable of more than holding their own at this level.

You don't blast your way out of League 1 playing that kind of football by accident. That wasn't the case with Wednesday when they scraped out and then struggled to survive in the Championship for the next two or three seasons.

Agree on both these points. Of our three home wins, Brentford were 'nothing', Barnsley were 'crap' and, if it wasn't for Derby gifting us all three goals, we'd have lost. All utter bollocks, of course. And, as disappointing as our 2012 POF 'no show' was, we weren't ready to go up. You've got to 'boss' Division 3 to be ready for the step up.

But if the Derby/Hull game last night proves one thing, it's the strength of the Championship. It's the only division where anybody can beat anybody else. Sure, the other three divisions could claim this, but it's only on rare occasions that a club near the bottom beats one near the top outside the Championship. Burton, Bolton etc. are no mugs. The nine points we've accrued so far could be very valuable come next May.

Edit: Just seen Post #34. Great minds and all that...

The defending for all 5 goals was atrocious, that gives me hope.

Watched most of it - Hull were bang average on the night.

Deservedly got a penalty at 1 nil and don't think Tom Lawrence was booked for it. He denied the Hull player a header on goal and although it wasn't a clear goal scoring opportunity, it was a deliberate foul in the box. Crap decision by the ref not to at least book him. Some may even consider it as clear.

Derby looked pretty good, but not surprised after what Rowett said after we beat them.
