Billy Sharp transfer interest?

If both the club and Billy turned down a bid, would that shut up some of the other moaners who say we always sell after the first bid?

Not being funny or trying to put a downer on things, but I can't help wonder whether some other championship or even lower premier league club might fancy a punt on him.

He's always had a good scoring record and never relied on pace too much so age shouldn't be too much of an issue. It sort of reminds me of Daryl Murphy, he went to Newcastle for £12 million to help them over the line at the age of 32 after a good scoring rate with Ipswich and hate to say it but I see no reason why a situation like this couldn't occur with Billy if he keeps this form up.

So what price? He's not a £10 million player but that's how much he is worth to us, in terms of getting a replacement in and the fact he is club captain and obviously a pivotal player.

As an aside, it looks like the Nigel Adkins experience was almost worth it for this signing alone!

I'm glad somebody mentioned Kevin Phillips. Another gem of a poacher who played with his head and was a clinical finisher. As a result, he got better with age and was scoring plenty of goals well into his late thirties. Billy will do likewise.

I do find it strange given the consistency at which he's scored goals for his entire career that he's never had much of a hit at the premiership.

You're quite correct, apologies and taken back. It was close to 5 million as a transfer plus signing on fee and wages so still a decent amount.

We'd have to be offered much more for Billy in this situation due to age and importance but Murphy was a similar situation.

He could even play in the PL for a couple of seasons then return.

To be clear I don't want or think this will happen just that it could happen (and if there isn't interest it's strange) if so was hoping for a mature discussion of how much he'd want and how much we'd get

The only way I could see Billy ever leaving the Blades now is if we drastically improved over the next season or two to the point where he was surplus to requirements. While ever he's getting game time and scoring goals for us I genuinely don't believe he would go anywhere.

Apparently the club did play hard ball when negotiating his new contract. I hope, for the sake of fairness there are incentives within, that will reward him handsomely on his performances.

Why are you wanting us to pay over the odds on our contracts? Striking a good deal or playing hardball as you call it, is exactly what we should be doing and the player must have been happy else he wouldn't have signed it.
If he scores goals and plays well then that is what we're paying him for. If Billy's got a goal bonus included then great I hope he gets it, as we all win, but your view of fairness, wanting not to give him more for doing what he should be is nonsense.

I've been full of praise for the players and the team in general today, click on the posts I've made for more info.
