Not being funny or trying to put a downer on things, but I can't help wonder whether some other championship or even lower premier league club might fancy a punt on him.

He's always had a good scoring record and never relied on pace too much so age shouldn't be too much of an issue. It sort of reminds me of Daryl Murphy, he went to Newcastle for £12 million to help them over the line at the age of 32 after a good scoring rate with Ipswich and hate to say it but I see no reason why a situation like this couldn't occur with Billy if he keeps this form up.

So what price? He's not a £10 million player but that's how much he is worth to us, in terms of getting a replacement in and the fact he is club captain and obviously a pivotal player.

As an aside, it looks like the Nigel Adkins experience was almost worth it for this signing alone!

He's not a ten million player. No because I wouldn't sell him for that.

Village idiot thread.........

Are people saying that Billy Sharp isn't good enough to get interest from other clubs?

Or that he is good enough but there won't be any interest?

Put it this way, if you were Sunderland's manager at this point would you want to sign him? I think the answer would be yes. Could they sign him? They have the money for a transfer fee certainly. Would he agree to go there? Possibly not, but then Sunderland could offer him 40k a week.

(P.S I love it when people respond 'stupid thread' then leave without backing up what they say, really lends credibility to their argument)

He's good enough

We don't want him to leave

He doesn't want to leave

I doubt there is any feasible fee, or any feasible wage that would make either party even consider it

He's staying fucking put, as is Brooks, as is Wilder

Ffs nowt like stirring shit
Pot after a good win is they ! Chill out enjoy the win and have a beer or summat ,Sharps going nowhere

I am enjoying the win thank you. Can I ask, when is one allowed to post a thread wondering if a player might be interest for performing well? Is there a 24 hour waiting rule or something? If Brooks had played as well as Sharp today this forum would be in meltdown wondering if he could leave by the end of the month.

I'm praising the player saying he's worth £10 million FFS how is that putting a downer?

Yes, it's called the caaaant rule

Naive to think Sharp will not interest other clubs. There will almost certainly have been interest expressed at every single window since he has been here.

His goal scoring record is a statement of fact. It's part of history and the record books.

On top of which, he contributes sooooooo much more than just the goals.

Keep going Billy.

He took a cut in wages just to be here two seasons ago. And he's said he wants to end his career here. There's not much to talk about.

No, you've just got previous for shit-stirring.

That's lovely, and I'm not questioning the player's integrity but if he was offered 40k+ (which is what Murphy was on) do you think he would turn it down? If it was a premier league team it might even be his last chance to play for England at the World Cup (fanciful I know, but Lambert almost managed it)

Ah yes, when I strongly indicated that Ched Evans would re-sign for us earlier this year on a thread I got dog's abuse for. Two weeks later the deal was confirmed. Who'd have thought it? ;)

Essentially, I think without going to extremes it isn't going to happen. We would want an extortionate amount of money, as would he, and the only sides that would be willing to put up that sum would be better served by buying elsewhere. That's assuming that money matters that much to him, given that he took a cut to be here. He's got a young family and ties to the area. He's become the hero he always wanted to be. This is just a non-starter.

Apparently the club did play hard ball when negotiating his new contract. I hope, for the sake of fairness there are incentives within, that will reward him handsomely on his performances.

Maybe Sharp would attract some interest but I don't think Billy himself would want to go.

I think Sharp can see himself finishing his career with us.

He's not a flashy enough player. Part of the reason we did so well last year was our assets for one reason or another weren't overly attractive prospects for other teams despite playing well.
Sharp could get 20 goals and I still think he would be over looked. I thought the same with kevin phillips, players like that don't get the credit they deserve.
