Billy Sharp transfer interest?

I know the forum is where we discuss any and everything, but forgive this test of my patience with the OP. As things are going well, as we find our feet in a division that we've been away from for far too long, and then someone suggests that Sharp might want to move elsewhere? Do me a fucking favour! Do you really want our most prolific player to leave, and if so, why? Nearly everything is in place for this club to take the next step up. It may not be this season, but we're in fine fettle, we're under great management, we're getting excellent crowds, home games are great affairs, and the atmosphere is rocking. Can anyone explain why someone would suggest something so daft?

Well, beginning your post with the sentiment that you didn't want to piss anyone off but........it's beyond an inference. I'd suggest I do the lashings, I'll make sure they're done effectively, after which you can wear your hair shirt for a month, that should teach you!

Of course we don't criticise on here, after all, what do you think being a Blade involves? We don't tolerate miserablism, let alone the thought that we're anything less than one of the world's great teams....surely that point was already clear?

I suppose I should have known better that a thread like that was going to cause an absolute hysterical over-reaction from some people. I can take constructive criticism no problem and was hoping for a reasonable discussion*, but plain abuse and insults will be challenged.

Apparently the club did play hard ball when negotiating his new contract. I hope, for the sake of fairness there are incentives within, that will reward him handsomely on his performances.

Possible but I think it's unlikely. It would take a big offer to tempt us and him and I don't think many see him as a top championship striker despite the start he's made to the season.

Not being funny or trying to put a downer on things, but I can't help wonder whether some other championship or even lower premier league club might fancy a punt on him.

He's always had a good scoring record and never relied on pace too much so age shouldn't be too much of an issue. It sort of reminds me of Daryl Murphy, he went to Newcastle for £12 million to help them over the line at the age of 32 after a good scoring rate with Ipswich and hate to say it but I see no reason why a situation like this couldn't occur with Billy if he keeps this form up.

So what price? He's not a £10 million player but that's how much he is worth to us, in terms of getting a replacement in and the fact he is club captain and obviously a pivotal player.

As an aside, it looks like the Nigel Adkins experience was almost worth it for this signing alone!

I don't want to appear to be putting on a downer (again!), I have never said we should be looking to sell him. DronnieBlade says we are likely to be receiving bids in January.

Its just we have history with James Beattie and Nick Blackman! I think we will be alright to be honest. It sounds crazy but last year I was worried as if a PL team came in with the World Cup around the corner there was an outside chance he could be tempted, but now he's a year older it's unlikely he'll want to leave and that there's a club that could get him.

If we do receive bids though I wonder how much they will be...
