  • But that Moore isn't good enough and wouldn't have saved some that Blackman did

Trouble is at this rate, we'll need to fork out for a new starting 11 apparently.

  • We should give Brayford a chance because of recent injuries to Baldock and Stearman
  • Brayford's a bearded cunt who takes up the arse from Daddy Clough and wants to burn Bramall Lane down
 
A good summary but you forgot the one thing that people seem to be latching on to... PACE!! Like suddenly of we had it we'd have no issues.

It may help but then you can pass a ball quicker than any player can run with its. From what I've seen so far, the players seem reluctant to play the passing game of last season. Probably out of fear almost, of the opposition punishing any misplaced pass.

Possession stats suggest passing isn't the problem at all.

Forward progressive passing however is.

Wilder is quite happy with the way things are going but is frustrated at not getting the signings over the line but appreciates the boards support.

There's an undertone to his comments that clearly show he's unhappy with the board not only not giving him any money but are still holding his dog to ransom otherwise he would walk.
 
Massive overreaction by some of our fans, lets be fair it was always going to be this way for some based on how good we were last season.

I have to say i am shocked at our lack of ball retention and the gulf in class between League 1 and the Championship and i consider myself to be a realist, its clear even against Brentford a game we won that for long periods we were second best, that said i was in favour of giving the team that won us promotion a chance to see how they fare.

3 games in im honestly hoping that Ched, Brookes or Duffy start on Saturday i want us to have more of the ball and do better with it,

Its going to be a tough old season, that said i have every faith in Wilder and Knill, its been a tough start however good that we know what we are up against, we will be alright im still saying a 14th finish and for our first season ill take that

I think we should play all 3 of Ched, Brooks and Duffy. Maybe Brayford in for Stearman as well as I dont think Jake Wright has enough pace at the back albit very experienced

The main worry is that of the starting eleven last night only two were new signings. We've still got some new players to make an impact, and some time left in the transfer window, but it's a concern.

Otherwise I just kind of shrug. Obviously when you lose a couple of games you're going to be able to find faults, you can do that even when you win. But on the face of it, we lost to a scruffy goal and a dodgy decision at Boro, and if we'd got a penalty (or Sharp had finished the chance regardless) it could've gone the other way last night.

We've made some nice chances, we're moving the ball well and holding possession and, most importantly, we've got 3 points in the bag. Better start than last year. Do you think Brentford are worried about going down? They have fewer points than us...

That we'll need to improve and that there'll be better teams than us in our first season up is inevitable. What's really going to count for us this season is our home record and how we fair against the sides that will be in the bottom half. Barnsley did okay last year, but being at the Lane it's the first game where we'll get a sense of what standard we ought to be aiming for. Even if we lose, it's too early to be a major problem anyway. One of the best things about Wilder last season was that we improved all the way through it.
 
It's fine to think things are fine and that we'll be fine.

Only parts i disagree with, is freeman can't attack or defend at this level, Moore is the perfect goalie as he is vocal and commanding, Evans is ineffective and everyone is blind to it as they see the man he used to be not what he is which is a league 1 player at best.

In the last two away games, Evans has been more involved and created more than Clarke/Sharp combined, in a quarter of the time.

Just my opinion.

Great post! I agree that a sizeable section of our fans are been over critical but we're Blades and been critical and negative is second nature to us - although I try to be a clapper! Here's my thoughts on some of the above you mentioned and some you didn't summarise.

Blackman is quality and was definitely not at fault for Cardiff's first or Middlesborough's. The corner from Cardiff was very fast and landed at the edge of the six yard box and he couldn't have got there on time unless he decided prior to the corner been taken that he was going to leave his line and that would be madness. Blackman might not be the most commanding keeper in the league but nor is Moore and Blackman is been exposed regularly at the minute because we're playing decent opposition away from home and our new to the league.

Freeman like many in the team is finding his feet. He can't attack as he used to because if he does he leaves big gaps behind him and we'd be overloaded and everyone would be critical of him defensively for been over committal! Freeman, like Stevens, Lafferty and probably Baldock are best going forward but aren't wingers and aren't capable of taking a man on either - they're still defenders by trade but overlap well and can get up and down the pitch well. We can't expect Freeman or Stevens to be as effective as they would be in League One but neither does it mean that either aren't good enough - its just about them and the team, getting used to a new level, with less possession and we need to make the most of the chances and opportuinities we do have to attack.

Clarke and Sharp in this league, although both capable at this level, both rely on service and lack pace. I can't see either scoring many unless we improve in creating chances from both wide or in the middle. In my view we desperately need a quality player in the number 10 role. Someone who has pace, can take his man on, shoot at goal from distance for Billy and Clarke to follow up at and to provide service to the front two. Marcus Maddison maybe.

We're figuring out our formation. I don't think Wilder wants to play 3-5-2 all season, or at least for 90 minutes in every game. I don't see why Thomas has come for that and I can only think that in time we'll see more of him and maybe revert more to 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 with Billy up top and Evans behind in the middle with two attacking mids on the flanks such as Carrurthers and Duffy.

As fans we need to be patient and realistic - I know that's easy to say but Boro and Cardiff away are games you look at pre-season and think a draw would be like a 4 - 0 win in League One! Boro and Cardiff have both spent far more than we have and have been at this level or above for years and years. We know Tufty still wants a few more signings and I reckon they'll either be players with attributes we don't have - such as pace - and maybe that'll be a youngster forward from the Prem to come off the bench etc. Or it'll be a permanent signing of someone of substance who can immediately go into the side sand make a difference like Coady.
 
We've let in 3 goals in two away games against tough opposition but we haven't scored a single one of our own yet .Last season scoring more than the opposition was our strong point but so far we seem to have lost the Knack probably through a lack of confidence but it will come. Maybe we should have started were well finished ,with the old team and let the new player's work their way in. Anyway I've every confidence that with a good win we'll soon get our Mojo back

I told you all at the end of last season it was boring when everyone agreed. It's much livelier on here now it's not just a love in for Wilder and the team. The slashers and clappers are back out in force and the sensible lot seem to be in the middle pissing themselves as normal.
 
It is very possible that we have played 2 teams away from home that will occupy the top 2 at worst top 6 come the end of the season...
The other game, we played a team that have been a top half championship side since they got promoted 4 seasons ago finishing 10th 9th and 5th.

We probably wont have 2 harder away games all season and we have not been embarrassed at all... I''d say we currently look like a lower half to pushing top half team going by performances... The big test is when we play teams we feel we should be finishing above such as Barnsley, Burton, Millwall etc thats when and only when any of these negatives would be even slightly justified!

Opinions! Everything is shit! None of this is new. Back when the Kop was first built, me and the old man had season tickets, 2/3rds up, bang in the middle. There was a guy on the the row in front of us who, every single game, every five minutes, was constantly hurling 'advice' towards the pitch. All of it futile and inane - he must have been in gardening leave from his international management job...

So it will always be. In the stands or behind a keyboard. Every fucker thinks they know best...
