Still remember them crying when we beat them in the play-offs.

Got your umberellas ready for the rain of coins and spittle?

Just off wi 'our gert' left town got stuck in traffic heading for M1 on Parkway so avoid if yer can!

5-0 to Hoofball United tonight !

Sorry for the double post but I'm shocked. I thought SunderlandBlade's post was just a poor rumour. Is this some kind of fecking joke?

Billy Sharp works his socks off, has one disallowed and wins a penalty - Blackwell tells anyone who will listen that his shirt is up for grabs - next game he's on his arse back home? What a crock of shit.

I get rather miffed by Blackwell before the majority of our games with his strange team selections.

Sounded like a awful game of football.

Mind you we got a much needed win so we cant complain really.

I just hope we play alot better on Saturday.

Most United fans I talk to wanted him to be dropped.

We needed to change something....didn't we?

But under what reasoning? If (I know) Sharp's header had have stood, would he have been dropped? Or would he have been praised for his hard work, his well taken goal and his clever running to draw the penalty? What do you reckon?

I think he works hard and if we were getting the crosses in he would have a better chance.

But if we keep playing the way we do Sharp has to go.

I think Blackwell seems to be accommodating players instead of being positive in his selections.......I don't mean Sharp either....I'm thinking of fitting in Howard and Morgan as examples.

If we played bad and won away from home tonight....I'll always take that!

:)

I can't share that positive, I'm afraid SF. As a one off - even a couple of games on the bounce, maybe. But we are not creating anywhere near enough chances to make a sustained push for promotion. I agree with you about Blackie accommodating certain players but I don't think I'd focus my questioning on that aspect. I'd wonder more about the style of football he chooses to play when we've got the players that we have at our disposal. :)

I've been wondering about that since the 60's with every manager we've had...apart from John Harris perhaps!

:D

I too think Billy will be on his way in January.

He's simply not scoring enough.. causes a few problems for the opposition, but nothing that they can't handle. It's alright paying the money we did for him if he can hit the back of the net like he did at Scunny - but he can't!

Montgomery = best player on the pitch.

*waits for someone to come along and say "shows how shit we are when monty's the best player on the pitch" comment*

I told everyone we needed Monty back in to free Howard up to become creative :D

Monty the best of a bad bunch by the sounds of it tonight. Although Id of played him too as I dont think Spring can play that defensive midfield role.

Anyway that was probably the worst and most boring match I have ever listened to. Mind you I think that was partly down to the ref who was blowing his whistle every 2 minutes.

Most important we win, we have to stop accumulating loses if we want to challenge for the top. We have a run of games where we can stop the rot and that is most important. Sharp was out becuase of an injury they wanted to protect according to the boss.

True its stopped the rot and its an ugly win and its a much needed 3 points.

Although I just hope the same starting 11 isnt picked for saturday otherwise I think we may lose.

Heard a couple of people say Henderson was pap. Is this fair comment? I'd have preferred to see Webber partnering Beattie as he's not really had a fair crack in his favoured position this season and I'd imagine he was more match-fit than Henderson.

A win is a win, true, but from hearing the line up everybody knew it was going to be a torrid affair and those that went would come home with a crick in their necks. We won't beat decent teams playing like that so I hope Blackie doesn't play the "never change a winning side" card.

Of course I don't remember John Harris, SF ;). But like my Pop says it takes blend and balance and he was the master of it. I think Blackwell would do well to have a chat with some of "Gentleman" John's contemporaries and start thinking a bit more about picking the right man for the job and stop (I hate this saying but it seems just) fitting square pegs in round holes.

Was by no means a pretty victory... but we did play some fairly decent stuff at times only to panic and lose the ball. Quinn did this a few times when in a position to cross and Naughton also looked nervous.

Howard wasn't really doing much but scored. He can't tackle enough to be a defensive midfielder and he isn't getting forward enough to create anything. Monty was a revelation and played some clever balls in an attempt to free up some space.

Naysmith seemed to drift inside with his man too much, drawing Kilgallon out and causing us to lack height in the box. They were winning so many headers which could have been dangerous.

Earnshaw was a crock of poo last night and Tyson had a guilt-edge chance to score but spooned into the United crowd. Beattie and Henderson had no pace up front whatsoever, but both of them were being held and pushed around with no comeback from the referee. Webber (or Cotterill... pace in other words) should have probably been brought on earlier to push for a goal. Henderson looks unfit and as though he needs match minutes.

Both teams lacked any kind of confidence whatsoever, but we just edged it. Linesmen and referee were, as ever, crap.

Thanks for the round-up Linz, 3 points at Swansea and hopefully we can put this sticky spell behind us (until we play Wolves of course :)).

In the end, we got what we went for... three points.

But if we play like that at home, the crowd will soon start to get more anxious than they already are.

The lack of space and options around the midfield was appalling and we're never going to break with full conviction with Beattie and Henderson up front served by a midfield the likes of which we saw last night.

I like Halford and he had a few tricks while taking men on last night, but he isn't quick.

Monty played some lovely through balls which Beattie and Henderson weren't quick enough off the mark to get on the end of and it's unfair on Monty to expect him to be our creative playmaker in midfield.

Howard for me, hasn't done the job he was bought for over the past few games, after a very impressive performance at Charlton. He can't defend and he wasn't getting forward... so what exactly he was doing I don't know (yes, yes, I know he scored).

Quinny would make a run down the wing and either panic and lose the ball or find himself with no options to cross to as our forwards were still on the half way line trying to get back up front.

People were moaning that we were resorting to "hoof football" at times... but sometimes we possibly didn't get rid of the ball quick enough. If getting the ball downfield quickly can lead to a break, then by all means, get the ball down there. This might have worked if either Beattie or Henderson could control the spherical object last night... both struggled. Similarly, if an opposition attacker is bearing down on you, don't play little tippy tappy balls to your teammate 5 yards away... get rid of the bloody thing. But if there's a man in space on the wing (Halford and Quinn saw plenty last night), get the ball to them and don't just knock it hopefully into their channels and expect them to win it.

A performance that poses more questions than answers.

Glad we got a win back under our belt. We definitely needed it! Also, its nice to see Howard finally get a goal for us.

Let's just hope we can get a bit of a winning run together now.

We were dog shit last night!

Yeah we won, but looking past that, there was nothing.

Forest should have beat us, they missed two 1 on 1s and a golden chance with a header, a better side would have certianly put us down

To pick out some people (although as a team we were shit)

Halford, had a nightmare night to say the least, couldnt get anything right.

Beattie, lazy lazy bastard for the most part of the game, either that, or his style just looks lazy, but anyway, he gave the ball away ALOT last night

Henderson, put the effort in, and was the better of the front 2, although didnt have a great game either, the crowds abuse of him last night was shocking, if you cunts want to single out players on the team for that treatment you can fuck off and support someone else

Blackwell i really dont know where this man is coming from anymore, he has no idea what his best team is, to bring montgomery back out of no where, was a wierd decision to say the least, i thought we had seen the last of this non footballer (although he did alright last night, fair play)

and his lack of subs, we were slow, had run out of steam, forest were well on top, we couldnt get out our own half, and he took about 15-20 minutes to long to make a sub

Naughton we appear to be coaching his talent out of him!

In the first half we played ok in parts, we looked best on the rare passing moves we did put together, but it was a night of long ball shit again

in conclusion, we were shit and a better side would have put at least 3 past us! we created fuck all, and i dont think the players know the offside rule, because the amount of offsides was a joke last night, its not just billy that has this problem!

oh and the cunts at the back that were singing, stand up if you hate wednesday over and over and over and over and over again, why dont you try singing a united song, and support the team, you waste of spaces, why dont you go to hillsborough, as you seem more bothered about that shower of cunts than you do about united.
