Ex Blades still living in the local area

Keith Curle used to have a house on Ecclesall Rd South, I think it's been sold now though.

Saw him a few times in Sweeneys barbers on Eccy Road. Has his photo on the walls in the shop I believe

Len Badger still local I think though not sure where. Also Ted Hemsley.

Mick Jones lives in south anston

I remember Mick Jones owning and working in a Sports shop in Maltby when I was growing up. Mick Jones' Sports was its highly original name.

I often recall going in with my mum to get my school PE kit and can still see him sat behind the counter. I didn't know who he was for ages as he played well before my time and I was a late(ish) bloomer as far as the Blades were concerned.

Not sure if they are still there now but Geary used to live in Oughtibridge and Alan Quinn in Worrall

Mitch Ward and Dane Whitehouse are still in Sheffield (or surrounding areas)
Dane Whitehouse is up at Brinsworth, I think he's driving lorries for a living. Carl Bradshaw (as previously has been said) is up at Killamarsh, he's a builder I think. I'm writing that and thinking how can two of my favourite Blades players be a lorry driver and a builder (no disrespect to either profession and both houses are really nice, but even so, it's not something any modern day footballer of their skill would be doing if they played in the current era), both obviously born 20 years too early:eek:

Kenny still lives close as far as I'm aware, same with Geary. Cadamarteri is/was coaching at the pigs academy so presume he does as well.

Paddy has just been signed as keeper for Maltby Miners Welfare apparently....

Has it occurred to anyone that Wilder might come on this forum?

I reckon he does you know. Probably desperate to know what my thoughts are on how he's doing.

I reckon he's Pierre's PC

Geary lives in Crookes - one of the blocks of flats by the Sports Centre opposite the Grindstone. Steve Charles lives in Dronfield.

As an aside, if I had to choose a player from our recent-ish past who might get into trouble with the law, he'd probably be quite high up on the list.

Any others who you wouldn't be surprised if they fell foul of the law?
Marlon King.

used to live down near dyke vale road/woodhouse in his playing days, i was mates with his nephew, we called at his house once for half hour, he gave us big bottles of cider. so as a 13yr old i got a bit drunk that night
That's just Carl.
Role model extraordinaire.

I think so, although I doubt he is a notable contributor. Probably just views what people write.

Following on from the Brian Gayle thread, and he was a southerner who moved up here when he signed for the club and stayed in the area, who else did it, I can think of quite a few.

Tony Currie out in the Worksop Area
Keith Edwards at Norton
Kevin Gage, a well known publican in Dronfield
Carl Asaba
George Santos, think he lives somewhere up at Intake
Paul Beesley, another one at Dronfield
Tom Cowan, a fireman at Parkway
Simon Tracey
Charlie Hartfield, stayed in the area but sadly now resident at HMP after getting in to a spot of bother

Any others?
Did he? You sure about that? I seem to remember he played for Man City and Ipswich before he signed for us.

Honestly, I really couldn't give a fig about ex footballers, or footballers for that matter, and where they live. Why is it important or even interesting as to where footballers live? Do you want to have a drive round to see if you can see them? What will you do? Try and start up a conversation with them? (About football of course). Will you boost their ego's by asking them for a photo, or get them to sign something? They are no more important than the bloke who delivers my post or cleans my windows. In fact, they are less important than the bloke who delivers my post and cleans my windows. There are a lot of footballers from both Sheffield teams live in the area where I live. My kids bump into them all the time. They are still a bit in awe of them - but then again, they are only children so that's understandable - I was like that once when I was a young teenager. Used to go to Billy Dearden's chip shop on West Street, thinking I might see him frying a pan of chips. (I never did of course). But the difference is, I grew up and lost all that child-like adulation and hero worship. How about you folks?

Nah mate! Once a hero always a hero! I still look for their cars in the car park, though it's a lot easier with the registration plates nowadays than it was in 1981! Nowt wrong with not growing up in some areas of your life. Far too many where you have to!

Usually good for a few stories too. Though the best Trenton Wiggan tales, often seen down Kelham Island boozers, rarely involve United..

Why bother coming on the thread then?

It's a gentle reminisce with the usual humour thrown in. The title made it clear what it is.

Please don't tell us what we should and shouldn't discuss. At best it is condescending and makes you look a knob.
