No love lost between Hirst and Wednesday, can see him going and it will be interesting to see how much they get as he should be valued at similar to DCL, subsequently gives us an opportunity to see how good or bad a job we did with him.
Exactly. Strikers in the past have gone for more than midfielders but that's not the case now.

Hirst and Wednesday have fell out big time and his biggest regret ever is not going to Man United, that's from the horses mouth.
See if he's going to try and get his son not to repeat his mistakes.

I thought Hirst and the Massive had kissed and made-up with him returning to his role at the academy.

I still expect Hirst Jr to move on to pastures new soon though.

What's the story with Hirst and Wendy not getting on?

We'd get more than a million for Brooks.

Wendy will do similarly well from a tribunal for Hirst if his dad tells him he's not signing a new contact.

Why so sure? He's not been with us for that long in academy terms.... Man city did the brunt of the work then released him, he also doesn't have many first term appereances which is the main 2 things a tribunal is based on I think...

Why all this talk of selling Brooks he will be with us this season unless someone comes in with a massive offer.
It's like having money in the bank as his price will go up the more experience he gets.Enjoy him as he sure is going to be a big player and we're in the driving seat.
Best attacking prospect we've had in years.

His value will only go up if he continues to develop at the rate at which all the super optimists are taking as a given.

If his progress stalls or he isn't really quite as talented as the present mass hysteria would lead us to believe then his value will fall.

Far more reasonable to compare him to a stock market investment than money in the bank

Remember, past performance is no guarantee of future returns and the value of your investment can go down as well as up.

Back onto subject, seems like Jamal Blackman is going to Bolton. As mooted further up.

Can't grumble at that. The lad wants to play games, he'll do that ahead of Howard and Alnwick. Probably less likely here.

Might seem like penny pinching for the sake of a few weeks but we don't really need to sign this loan keeper till the first game. Suppose we might as well save the wages while we can.

Alan Nixon is claiming Blackburn have received a bid for Jason Steele - no name of the bidding club but if we are looking at a keeper he may be a possibility?

famous last words, get Ripley here, last year of his contract surely 300k for a 3rd choice keeper should do it!

Conner Ripley would be a decent shout.

This forces out hand that we need to get more than a solid number 2 keeper.

We need a new keeper to come in who is coming in to be first choice. Then if he gets in the team cos Moore is either injured or off form then he will be the undisputed first choice keeper for the club. Likewise, if the new lad isn't doing it or is injured then (and Moore is fit!) then Moore is the undisputed number 1 keeper at the club.

Thats how it should work, non of this bring someone in to be number 2 bollox. Any player brought into the squad should be brought in with the intention that they will be playing games next season, not sitting on a bench all season getting woodworm in their arse.

Two top keepers please CW with Eastwood as the young back up. Ripley would be a good shout though or maybe try and get Lee Grant again on loan.

Any news on Moore's injury?

If only we could go back to the days of Kelly as number one and Tracey as back up.

But thats the thing. Tracey was never a 'back up' keeper. For spells he was a first team keeper who just so happened to be being kept out of the team at that time by another player (Kelly) in his position.

Tracey was the undisputed number one for Utd after replacing Graham Benstead in the 88-89 season. He remained number 1 until Kelly arrived on the scene in 92 from Preston.

The reason some tend to think of Tracey as being the 'back up' keeper, was that he had more injuries than Kelly. When he got back to full fitness, he couldn't get back into the side cos Kelly was such a good keeper and in form. Likewise, on the less frequent occasions when Kelly was injured, Tracey held the spot as number 1 keeper, keeping Kelly out of the team when he was fit again, until Tracey's injuries (usually his shoulder) resurfaced again. Only towards the end of Traceys career at the Lane was it apparent that injuries had taken its toll on him and then and only then was Kelly the undisputed top dog.

Both were number 1 keepers in their own right, both were fantastically gifted players, and neither could be classed as a 'back up' to the other. Between them they ensured that Utd kept a fabulous keeper in between the sticks for nearly a decade. The thing is it worked so well. Both waited for their chance and had to sit on the bench for a time, and when they got their chance invariably it was only their injuries which gave the other his chance. It meant that both stayed on top of their respective games.

Utd dont need a keeper who makes a living out of 'covering' for another keeper. They need a new keeper who is confident enough in his own abilities to think that he he should be the undisputed number 1. Then it's down to new boy and Moore to battle it out ala Kelly and Tracey did back in the day for that first team spot. Competition for places doesn't do any one any harm, it keeps em both sharp and on their toes.

I've mentioned Andy Lonergan and Connor Ripley earlier as well. I would be happy with either to be honest. Both seem possible with Wolves signing ruddy and boro signing Darren Randolph.

We play Boro second game of the season don't we? They might not let us have Ripley until after this game maybe?

If we buy him its irrelevant. If its a loan he doesn't play against them so that could be a win win for them.

What a choice we had back then.

Don't think it's fair to compare on stats though. Tracey was keeper for both promotion seasons when we won lots anyway.
Always thought Tracey was the better all round keeper, his kicking was excellent and so was his understanding with the defence. Kelly was an excellent shot stopper

Agree on Tracey - especially on the point about the defence. What deal with Nilsen and Kelly? There was always a lot of finger pointing. It looked as though if they could have gone 12 rounds, they would.
