I know Hudders had the lowest budget last season so that proves that it can be done on the cheap however this is not the case every season. I certainly don't want United to splash millions upon millions like a lot of Championship clubs do, but what I think is important is that McCabe's mindset doesn't remain that anything between £2m - £5m is too much for a player as this is going to make it really difficult to gain promotion and it may take CW a lot longer to assemble a side capable of doing so with a poor budget. Whereas in today's market the aforementioned figure range as I say isn't that much money for a player anymore even in the Championship.
I hope we do push the boat out as we've never really done that before, but I emphasise again that the club may have no option but to spend a lot more anyway than we ever have done in the past just so we can stay competitive let alone fighting off relegation. The club's attitude towards transfer fees that are commanded today must loosen up at the very least. I think we can get away with it this season as the team we have should be good enough not to go straight back down, but this time next year and the following seasons if we want to push on which obviously is the aim then we've ultimately got to spend a few million.
