Help with the under 23's

Could I emphasise what my Forum Brother Baw Heid says above. Watch & listen to Binnion, the Development Coach. He's not everyone's cup of tea. But, I find him to be a very impressive young man. He's only 30. If you don't know which one he is, don't worry, you'll hear him. And I mean you'll hear him anywhere in Belfast.

A by product of watching the U23s is even when I watch David Brooks in the first team (eg Chesterfield) I still get Binnion's voice in my head - "Brooksy, Brooksy, take him on".

Binnion will bawl & shout for the 90+. But, everything will be explanatory & suggestive. "If you go there, he'll have to do this" "Try going there & see what he does" "Next time look to do this".

Encouraging, supportive, honest, clear.

I'd happily have the fella speak at my funeral.

Phil

I've spoken to Trav a few times due to some of the work I do and he is a very good bloke. Knowledgeable and speaks well.

I always suspected you were a parent. As you probably realised. I hope you don't think I've ever trolled you, it certainly wasn't my intention.

Good luck to your lad, and ihadadream's lad too. The majority of us want all our youth players to be successful; they wear the red and white stripes.
If as a parent I can add a bit of information for the people who have a real interest in the younger group coming through I am happy to do it, and enjoy it.

So. Recap meathblade said he was going to Linfield this week to see our U23s. He asked for pointers, help, advice, etc. People chipped in. There was a discussion about the ethics of criticising young players. Some parents chipped in. I didn't want to clog up the Forum. I said I'd help by posting a few opinions & ideas on my Blog. I've highlighted a few players. I've name-dropped a few others. It's inevitability quite long. Don't go in without an interest. You've been warned. Read it here if you want

Cheers Phil.
I've not seen him play but thought Jake Bennett was a right-back ? (and the left wing-back competition would be from Norrington-Davies)

I've read the blog Phil and can't really argue with anything you say and to be fair it's a good assessment the only thing I would add is to watch out for Harvey Gilmour so far this year he looks to be in great nick physically and in the games he's played has been bang on it from the off. Hopefully they have a good tour in Ireland and settle on some sort of team to start the season UTB

I agree pal. At the moment i think Gilmour and Slater are quite a way in front of the other midfielders at present. Only my opinion mind.

Really like Gilmour. Glad to here he's developing physically, that's the area of his game I thin needs developing most. Great technician.
