2 year deals for Coutts, Sharp and Bash
3 year deal for Freeman

Shorter deals for the older players, gives us some relief that they can't walk at the end of the season and also not too much damage done if it turns out the championship is a step too far for any of them. Good business blades.

Good. Contract lengths are correct.

Fleck and O'Connell next hopefully.

Good stuff...all signed with Blades pens also :)

Wonder how Donald Trump would describe the original report and resulting nuclear meltdown.......

Need to double Flecks wage asap.

If Flecks agent has read this forum then there's no way he'd accept a double salary.

If we believe he's worth £10 million then his agent will have already worked out his salary needs to be in the £20K/wk to £25K/wk range, possibly higher.

Which is amazing when you consider he's only ever started 4 (FOUR) games in the Championship with an additional 3 matches as sub playing for Blackpool.

I reckon the club will see how he copes in his early Championship matches and then start negotiating, probably lots of lucrative performance related and promotion clauses.

I'm surprised that we've given Freeman an extra year. Seems an odd call, unless he's on less for longer.

Pic of all 4 signing on dotted line on the Star website....i wonder if they were all glancing to the side to see what the others are earning

I think it's due to age. All the others will be over 30 by the time they reach the end of their contracts (Sharp already is). Quite a sensible move I think.

These will be the '4 or 5' signings then. :(

If they are then they are four fantastic pre season signings. Whilst we fanny about negotiating for a decent league 1 midfielder and have 100 plus page threads, we have just signed the best striker, the best wing back, the best utility player, and the 2nd best midfielder from last seasons league 1, all for sod all transfer fees.

Excellent business by the Blades. Only surpassed by the re signing of the main man and his back room team. All important signings and all will handle the championship in their stride with relative ease.

Great news - Keeps the core of the side and team spirit together and those 4 were arguable 4 of the our top 5/6 performers last year (if not the whole league.)

As mentioned the contract for wilder means we have secured most of our biggest assets too.

We can hopefully wait for a little while to see how JO'C and Fleck do in the championship before sitting down with them and sorting something out - don't want to wait til Jan if they start the season on fire.

I can see the age angle, but since he's never really done it at this level I would have assumed they may have decided to give him 2 as well to see what he can do.

I assume CW is confident he can step up. It's important for players that their manager shows confidence in them and CW is doing so. Three years is fairly standard at his age so to only offer him two would send out the wrong message. The older ones will accept two because they understand the situation.

When you say step too far?

Coutts has played for Derby in the Championship.
Sharp played for half of the championship and Southampton in Prem.
Basham played for Blackpool in Prem.

It's not that it's a step too far.

That's true but all were a few years back now. I'm not expecting them to not be able to hack it, but wouldn't rule against them possibly finding it harder than they did and hence a 2 year deal is better than 3.

Jonathan Greening has a Champion's League winners medal, doesn't make him a Champion's League quality player.

If we don't reward, and are reactive, rather than proactive, he'll be a gonner by the end of January.

I agree but I was only joking.
