So its a purely hypothetical question.

If we received a:
- 10 Million offer for Fleck
- 5 Million offer for Brooks
- We have to sell one, but we can only sell one (not both).
- Both have sell on clauses
- Both offers are from lower to mid table Premier League sides.
- The other wouldn't be sold for 5 years

Fleck, 25 (44 games, 4 goals) - Established player, proven in League one to be able to run the centre of midfield, great passer of the ball, starting to get more goals now and is at the peak of fitness and his career. Probably has another 8-10 years at his peak, so would see the next 5 years out

Brooks, 19 (0 league games, 0 goals) - Young, plenty to learn, player of the Toulon Tournament and a great prospect, his whole career ahead of him.

There are no smart alternatives, we have to sell one, we keep the other. Who would you SELL?

This is a trick question right?

The answer is neither.
No, that's not an option. :)

My first thought is sell Brooks, but he potentially could be even better.

I presume that the 'dream' would be to eventually play Brooks and Fleck as the midfield pairing, but it would depend on Brooks developing at the club

i watched fleck all last season and he was my player of the year, ive watched brooks a few times in the development / u23's ???? Whatever they're called nowadays.. i just pop along when i can..

in the youth team brooks looks like a kid playing with other kids, but hes come on so fast its scary, based on yesterday and at stocky last week, hes a first teamer in the making.. seemed like he was never off the ball in malaga last night, looks like he will be our surprise "star" this season, very confident with talent to match..

We all know both would go... in answer to your question, and it wouldnt take anywhere near those figures..

;)

You've got an evil mind SB posing questions like this :p

On past evidence, you're right, but its a hypothetical question, just got me thinking with the thread on Fleck to Bournemouth. I am sure that Wilder took Eddie Howe to one side and warned him off everyone but Done.

I'm happy to go on a free, but not sure many forums would take me

SwissOwl?

Would serve you right for getting us into this situation. KM has been studying this thread and thanks you for the idea and the research you have done. Now looking likely that Brooks will go in August (£795k + add ons if he plays for the Ivory Coast and scores the winner in the Copa Del Brazillia). Fleck to go in January for £1,1m + take offs which reduce the final figure back to £300k,

Who said owt about a forum 'taking you'?

Boo

Glad to hear you are up for it. We'll go round when it;s dark and chuck him in the boot with a bag over his head.
Drop him off in Barnsley in his shredies and leave him to fend for himself. That'll learn him for all this shit stirring and giving other clubs ideas.

Yeah i agree its a bit of fun isnt it, i need to take my serious head off, but im worried were becoming a fanbase who just accepts the routine pre season weakening of our team or its potential through these sales, we havent got really upset in years when losing a player, we seem to accept it as our lot these days.. its a worrying development.. one day a manager will quit over it, especially one who wants to build something special..

Absolutely, didn't Spackman quit because of it?

Start of last season we seemed to accept Che and DCL going and in fairness we didn't really think there was anyone else worth selling apart from Billy and Brayford. So it shows how far we've come (in a year) as well.

Personally i think it would take a lot to prize Fleck away from Wilder, but its a matter of negotiating...Every player has a value, its a sad fact.

I think the Kyle Walker and Harry Maguire cash along with the Championship cash will do a lot to hold off any potential vultures, but it might also come down to where we are in January. Big few months ahead, if we're sat above midtable we might just push the boat out a bit and strengthen.

I had similar ( drunken) musing's after the game last night when someone had mentioned the Bournemouth scouts were watching.

Except the £5 and £10 million bids were for Fleck and O'Connell

Now that would rip the heart out of the team...

very soon, the accademy will be tran

Yeah id like to think that we would, ive also got an issue with the age that these kids become hot property, are they too young to grind it out in league one or the championship and we cant afford to sit em on the bench where theyll be unhappy, thats the thing, a prem club can take a gamble pay a lot more and loan em out if they get kite on cause theyre not playing.

When deane and fyortoft were sold i stopped going for years.. except any glory hunting matches.. which were never gloryfying..

Brooks has been mixing with the England kids, came out best player, expect something to happen there..

incredibly more worrying.. ive liked it, but i dint like it..

Back on subject and purely based on the fact that we have a ready made classic song for Mr Fleck.

Jesus I hope Porktalk don't getting hold of this, the images of Blakey, Sid James, Tango, Brian Laws, etc would be going into overdrive.

At the moment we wouldn't even get 5 million for the pair.
