With Long moving out we're left with just young Eastwood as GK cover.

CW has said he's looking to bring in a new GK but there's been very little obvious activity or even rumours in this regard? Is this just because signing a cover keeper isn't very newsworthy, or do you think CW is going to go with Eastwood as 1st team cover with a youfy stepping up to cover at U23 level?

If not and you think we're still going to get someone in - who's available and who would you like to see come in. Would they be needed to challenge Moore or would it be purely for cover?

Apologies if this was more appropriate for the Rumours forum, I did deliberate and thought it belonged here - I'm sure an admin will move it if it's in the wrong place...

I don't see the point in brining in another gk, all he will do is sit on the bench picking up a wage, may play the odd cup game but again won't it be better if the young player plays for experience sake.
Personally I wouldn't even have a gk on the bench.
Idealy we should just recall Long if Moore picks up an injury.

Long is nowhere near good enough for the championship.

If Moore does his ACL and we're left with Eastwood/Long from 1st Sept while at least January we'll end up bottom.

You start off with stating that Wilder has said he wants to bring in another goalkeeper and then go on to ask if we think Wilder will bother to bring in another goalkeeper. I think you answered the question yourself.

There's been very few rumours about a new keeper (other than what Wilder has said) but there was no rumours about Stearman signing.

Personally I think you should always have 3 keepers in the squad. Two senior players players and one youth player. I would have been happy with Long as back up as I don't subscribe to the idea that he isn't good enough but with him having gone out on loan we do need to bring someone else in. Hopefully it will be someone better than Moore. I'm not saying Moore ins't good enough but why bring someone in who isn't going to improve your team?

Remember when we never had a sub keeper on the bench and it cost us one time.

I am old enough to remember the late great Alan 90mph Woodward going in goal, and having a blinder each time,i am sure he only ever conceded 1 goal in all the games he played in the net Silent Blade ,am i close?

Remember Woody between the stcks as well. Seemed odd to me as he wasn't fuck off tough, but it worked.

The game were Woody took over from Hodgy after being deliberately targeted by Dirty Leeds, was the start of my deep loathing of that particular club, which still remains to the present day

My loathing of the scum , still as strong today was born of YTV media bias so I'm pretty ballanced I hate the city and every cunt in it not just the club.

How often do keepers get injured? Less than outfield players I imagine.

Saying that, I'd be happier with a good experienced keeper as cover, even if its someone who's in his mid / late 30's.

Yeah, weird that. As good a winger as he was, he was proper nesh and the time he spent in the net probably accounted for 90% of the time he spent in his own half in his career.

I get that, but personally I'd want a young, hungry keeper busting a gut to play and keeping Moore on his toes. I guess we'll never know how much having great competition in the Tracey/KellyRees RIP era kept the incumbent on their toes.
Ripley would be a great aqquisition.

Conceded only 1 goal (an unlucky own goal from Billy Dearden) in about 157 mins as am emergency keeper

Nov 1967. Hodgy had dislocated his finger stopping a Lorimer shot in the 9th minute of the home game against L**ds. Woody took over and performed heroics (according to my dad) . We won with a Mick Hill header and after the match Woody got a standing ovation

Sept 1969. Woody replaced Hodgy in the last 15 mins of the 2-0 home League Cup win against Newcastle (early in the game Woody scored the first goal direct from a corner)

Aug 1970. Woody replaced Hodgy in the last 5 mins of the 3-1 defeat at Orient

Nov 1972. McAlister carried off unconscious after 65 mins after getting a kick on the head by Mick Bates (Allan Clarke tapped in the loose ball for their 2nd goal) in the 2-1 defeat at L**ds

Oct 1973. Rodney Marsh broke McAlister's leg in the 59th minute (Denis Law equalised by tapping in the loose ball) in the 2-1 home defeat against Man City. Billy Dearden's own goal was unfortunate as he was trying to head away a cross which wrong-footed Woody despite that Woody got a hand to the ball but it wasnt enough for him to palm the header away

I have obviously got mixed up,i wasnt at the Leeds 67 game, must be the Sept 69 game i was on about,my hatred of the Dirties started when we played Newcastle it seems

Pretty good either memory or research SB. In the dark recesses of my memory, I thought Woody had gone between the sticks in a home (or televised) game against Everton and had a blinder in that one too.
Having said that, my memory has failed me before

We need competition as well as cover for me. We can't afford another situation where a keeper is playing injured because we haven't got a good enough backup.

Idealy we should just recall Long if Moore picks up an injury.

No mate. Definitely NO.

How much more evidence do you need?

Long isn't up to it. We have to get a competent goalkeeper not as back up to Moore ( because the jury is still out on him for me) but as someone to push him all the way.

It's probably the most important signing we will make.

Jury is still out on Moore- oh dear fans have some ridiculous expectations when it comes to goalkeepers, it's one of the hardest roles to cover in football and even an average keeper is enough of a find, we just don't need two.
If you get the defense right the keeper doesn't need to do much at all.
