that's true but i reckon we could use brayford as a big chunk of that £2m and effectively have brayford's wage bill off of our system and also spend roughly the same amount of money we would on leonard, on the rest of the cost of irvine

Our local rag reckons that the Kightly deal is now very close to being done. This shows that I know bugger all, and, unless Ron has re-mortgaged his mansion again, we will need some big bucks to afford Kightly's wages. So Lenny may yet be on his way before the season starts. Alternatively, we could start with Kightly and Lenny in the midfield.........yes please Ron, that would be nice.

If this happens we only have ourselves to blame - could have wrapped the deal up weeks ago.

Still it's not the end of the world - plenty of other possible targets - we missed out on a couple of our key targets last year too. Just doubt they would tick as many boxes as Leonard did in terms of age, relative experience, performances etc.

Why doesn't brown have a look at what we've got on the fringes of the 1st team.

It’d have to be a kid really as we don’t have anyone else surplus to requirements in the senior squad in midfield. Reed, Slater, Gilmour etc. Not sure Southend would see any of them as being good enough yet. Don’t think we’d want to let Duffy or Carruthers go.

Excellent signing for you boys. I don't think that affects you losing Leonard though-footballing wise.
I suppose his wages could need funding but he's a 31yr old winger, it's not really a replacement.

Club sources are saying that he is not a replacement. Mr Brown is still looking to strengthen the squad in central midfield according to his latest interview today. I may yet get to see Lenny and Kightly playing together......................
