I also know one of wilder's close mates!. He's an Italian with a surname of peroni if my memory serves me well!!.
It's what the Fast Show would have been like if it had been written and performed by the terminally unfunny. Or the later series of Hale and Pace. The Peroni joke is fast getting up there with "wer u erd dis pal", season tickets and attendances, GCB ringtone for Nokia and other such wonderful witticisms.

http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/southampton/forum/15735/what-is-a-marquee-signing/Not that I want to come over all superior, but I believe that the original term was a "Marque signing" in the sense of a readily identifiable famous brand or in the case of a football signing a player who would be known and shown as being of "history or pedigree" such as, in the car world, Porsche, Ferrari etc. It has regrettably suffered the same fate as "of" for "have" and "get" for "have" and "pacifically" for "specifically" in recent years, but hey, that's English for you. Marque not Marquis or any other derivative please. It pisses me off.

I thought you didn't want to come over all superior?Interesting. Its an explanation but it probably reinforces the point that uneducated journos didn't know what they were talking about and added an extra e because they couldn't pronounce nor understand the proper word that was originally meant. I never thought I'd miss the day when the Star was a completely print journal and its journalists were educated.![]()
