Wilder to Sunderland?

Sunderland playing at St. Johnstone 15th July in pre-season. Wilder can't go there, Scoooooogs would surely score.

What are we hoping to achieve by giving Wilder a new contract?

We could double it but Sunderland would pay him off and double.
So how about us trebling his contract but Sunderland would pay that off and double that.
What if we quadrupled his contract? Sunderland would pay that off and double it again.

It doesn't matter if Sunderland could double it or whatever.

If he's paid what he believes is fair, then he won't leave. Simple as that.

We also need to consider "2nd season syndrome". Blackwell, Wilson and Clough were all great in their first seasons, we thought we'd finally found the right man BUT in their 2nd season they went very cautious, almost negative.

That doesn't even come into it. The job Wilder has done has been utterly emphatic and spot on in every way, and he seems like a perfect fit for the club. He can't be compared with those two.

There's a world of difference between 'main motivation being money' and feeling like you're being taken advantage of. Yes, Sunderland could always offer him more than we could, but we're not even paying him what we paid Adkins- that's the difference.

I'm sure that Wilder would stay with United if he felt he was being looked after, but I fear that he feels he's being taken advantage of, at the moment. He could end this speculation by saying he's going nowhere, he hasn't.

He expects a better deal, and he should get one, and whether he goes to Sunderland or not, if he doesn't sign a new contract, we'll always be vulnerable.
He signed a contract when he joined us and as far as I know the club are honouring it.

In what way does that equate to "being taken advantage of"?

If he's not now happy with the terms, then he shouldn't have signed the contract in the first place!

Grayson, Phillips and Coyle being mentioned this morning. Good news that CW isn't even being talked about

How do so many people know so much, how does anybody know what Wilder gets paid, what his bonus for promotion was, what incentives are in place for this sesaon and maybe, just fuckin maybe mccabe has had a chat with Wilder about a new contract, yet some on here are already starting to Ave a go, speculation is good but its starting to grow into facts, facts that, as always are speculation, p.s. Wilder/Knill are going nowhere, fact!

Very true. For all we know Wilder had a 50% pay increase in his contract if he got us promoted.

After what's happened in the last ten years don't believe Mccabe or the prince will take Wilder for granted we finally got it right the owners for sure will take care of messrs Wilder and Knill and there coaches ,they would be complete fools if they allowed them to move on.
Don't believe for a minute Wilder head would be turned by money,he's a fan (blade)that counts for a lot.

It counts for a heck of a lot, but it doesn't quite count for everything. Ultimately only he himself can answer the question as to whether there is a financial tipping point, a price where he can be bought, so to speak. Most of us would have that no matter how much we would like to think otherwise.

Sunderland though? It had better be a shitload of money because no manager will last long there.

What a mess:

"Álvarez, signed by Gus Poyet, joined Sunderland on a season-long loan in August 2014. Ill-equipped for English football, the Argentinian winger made only made five Premier League starts but his contract stipulated the club would have to sign him permanently providing they avoided relegation. Sunderland claimed the clause became void, citing a knee problem which they said Inter had neglected to address, but the CAS effectively dismissed that argument.

Even so, it seems hard to credit precisely how Sunderland are in such a mess after 10 years in the world’s wealthiest league. As their Sweden Under-21 striker Joel Asoro recently put it: “Sunderland received £93m for finishing bottom of the Premier League. It’s crazy. Why don’t they have the money?”

The answer resides amid a catalogue of appalling buys by assorted managers. Damningly, Sunderland sold no player on for a profit between August 2011 and January 2017 and have made money on only five of the last 48 they have traded. As Asoro added: “Sunderland have had a lot of money, it’s just they haven’t used it properly.”

I'm going to file the "Wilder isn't happy that he's being taken for granted" rumour next to the one about Ched suing McCabe if he didn't give him a contract, and the one about Samir Carruthers' Mrs being homesick.

In the cabinet with the one about Baxter snorting Charlie out of the crack of Collins' arse during half time last season.

Easily done in incompetent hands, and it underlines the importance of retaining some sense of fiscal literacy as well as having the skills to select the players who will repay your investment. I've no problem with paying a healthy fee for a player, but please ensure that their reputation doesn't go before them. So far, a good example of what we should be following is Bournemouth's policy of where they look for players and exactly how much they're prepared to pay.

Alan biggs reporting that there's been clubs sniffing, but ultimately expects the club to begin contract talks.

Rosler, Moyes and Graham Alexander are three obvious and decent candidates to replace him. So I think they'll still be OK.

Whos gonna be the first muppet to start a wilder to preston thread!
