Southend are saying not for sale, but now looking at bringing a couple of midfielders..hmmmm.

Any interested party in Leonard, will know what the real situation is with the player, no doubt via an agent supplying them with any helpful info such as any minimum release clause and whether the player wants to move etc and we just need to be patient and wait for Leonard to reject their contract offer, which I would imagine he will. Of course this could all be genuine and if he signs a new contract then I doubt they would sell him. Southend are no doubt hoping that clubs panic into a higher bid but in reality Southend will know whether he is likely to stay or not and the talk of a new contract is designed solely to get the best bid possible. If its rejected then Southend are in a much weaker position so its a bold move from them.

They're talking about a promotion bid next season but looking at their current squad, they're not good enough and I would have thought Leonard with his player of the season award would want to move on rather than risk another season of league one mid table football. We will be able to match any offer Southend come up with too. I can only see location been a problem for us if a southern club comes in for him too.

I'll be surprised if he doesn't move on now..If they're looking at midfielders the writing is on the wall maybe.

I think so too, although they probably needed more anyway.

My guess is that the Lennoard transfer will only move faster once it's known whether he will be willing to accept a new deal from Southend. If the answer is no, I'd suspect that Southend will be more willing to sell. Personally, I think Southend already know that they have no chance of keeping him - at least no chance of keeping him, unless they want an unhappy player on their hands and we all know that can be very dangerous to keep an unhappy player. Michael Brown springs to mind when he didn't get the move he wanted and then was average in the season after.

Or Maguire faking sunstroke. Nobody mentions that because he's a Bladey favourite and they'd rather blame Clough or McCabe.

Does he go alongside Training cone and Nowt fancy in your hero list?

No, I actually like Maguire and rate him highly, but he engineered a move, no doubt about it. Yet most choose to blame Clough and McCabe,

Morgan was a good centre-back and leader but an appallingly useless coach, yet people talk about bringinimback. Staggering.

Montgomery, like his mate Kozluk the Joke(r), was comedy value only.

Thank Pele we've now got a football team rather than a bunch of shadow-chasing, upanatem ragamuffins. A minority view, I know, but I'm happy with it.

Totally agree. The main thing that will stop him joining is if the location is a problem. It didn't ought to be, in this day and age, for a young fella. A bit different if you've got family and school commitments, but for someone Leonard's age he ought to be fully mobile. But he could get an offer from a club in the South - and depending on where that club is he might prefer to stay there. I'm surprised Robbo hasn't enquired after him at Charlton. Mind you, I read that although Robbo is rumoured to be chasing several players the club have not tabled one bid for anyone yet. So maybe he's just window-shopping until they sell Holmes to us and he's got some cash to spend?

The statement from the Southend Chairman is not the be all and end all by any means. If Leonard wants to leave then there are ways he can do that, regardless of the fact he's under contract.

I just wish it would hurry up and get sorted though, one way or the other. It's getting boring now.

A minority view, I know, but I'm happy with it.

A 'minority view' in your own mind because you choose to ignore the tsunami of posts about how well we played last season and pick up on the odd few about 'going long'.

'Tiresome' doesn't even begin to cover your fixation with this mythical army of Blades, 'clamouring' for the return of long ball.

I do agree we have a team of footballers now.

Regarding Maguire, you can hardly blame him, third tier, played plenty of games for us, I think he had served his time and deserved his move.

Morgan has a poor track record as a coach but he'll always be a legend as a player.

Monty, if he could pass a ball would have been a top six Prem player.

Didn't Morgan do very well with our youth team and got them playing some nice football?

'Ron' has every appearance of a bald man under a rug that's caught the wind. You can clearly see the scalp retreating. That'll scare the predators off...
Haha..he does have that look,or maybe one that says he knows the game's up and he's about to lose his best player.

Said he would not sign until this thread becomes at least as Big or bigger than both the Dan Burn and Sam Morsy threads.
Time to move on to next target then. His name just doesn't len(ard) itself to as many puns.

No use c-Ryan about it.

See, shit.

What!!! You mean Abbott likes the whiff of fish scent? Bet she likes a finger up her bum too.....going slightly off topic, but breaking news cannot be denied.

What can be read, can't be unread!

I reckon this one is dead in the water. Whether the fee is acceptable or not to Southend's Chairman, if Leonard really wanted to come he would have made it clear by now and forced the issue. Unless he's holding out for a bidding war, in which case i think Wilder will cut ties

No then. He wanted them to hoof it in true nowt-fancy style. He had to he "advised otherwise"

Fly-on-the-wall-Pinchy once again has all the facts and has it bang to rights.

Let's not indulge in a Bladey salvage operation.

Tsk, the hoofers, long ball merchants, Basset acolytes and Nick Montgomery are at it again. 'Only in S2', eh Pinchy?

How do you know?*

*I realise I've asked you that quite a few times but hopefully you will finally be able to provide an answer.

It was fairly common knowledge at the time. As far as the forum is concerned it was disclosed with a great deal of confidence by a poster named ghandi I believe. Not sure if he's still around.

Much more importantly, given his conspicuous and absolute failure In the role; the fact that he was appointed to cut costs, not on merit and his publicly proclaimed 'football' philosophy: "Nowt Fancy - like Bassett" would you care to present the case for Morgan the Coach? I ask because you seem perturbed that I am stating the obvious: he's useless.

Is it Bladey Bladeness? I suspect so. If so, I'm afraid I don't deal in that currency. It's parochial, worthless bollocks.

To be fair to Harry, I thought he'd go the season before he did. It was no surprise he left when he did I thought.

I agree. It is unprofessional and disloyal though, to fabricate a reason not to play in a friendly. Should we ignore that just because we like a player and wrongly blame the club management?

I guess every transfer is different. I'm not too concerned about the sunstroke incident for a friendly. More concerned when players have minimum fee release clauses, which often replicate the true value of a player. McDonald springs to mind in particular. We all know players move on to bigger or higher levels but there's a right and wrong way of doing it. Wilder's a master of ensuring we don't sign players who have only their own interests at heart.
