I get so bored int closed season. Not been to bad last few seasons, couldn't wait for it to finish and didn't look forward to it restarting.

But, as we all know this season was exceptional, hence I'm kicking the cat early waiting for the fixture list and the season to start. So, I got to guessing who our first match will be against and I'm going to guess our first match back in the championship will be ........

Aston Villa away
Anyone want a guess? Bit of fun to check on 21st June

Whoever we get I'm sure we will kick off the season Friday night live on Sky.

100 points Champions against one of the relegated ex Prem sides.

One of the relegated premier league clubs on the Friday night at BDTBL

Would they let us play Wednesday in the first match of the season? Is it completely randomised or are there certain exceptions that they make, like for derbies?

Have we ever played Wednesday in the first game of the season before?

I'm sure they fudge the fixtures a little bit for the tv schedule surely

I watched a program on how they make up the NFL schedule (sad I know!)

A lot more goes into it than you would think. Stadiums that have concerts or other events (Man City in the prem) Can't play home on that day. Spurs playing at Wembley can't coincide with league cup final etc.

Then the obvious local teams not being at home on the same day.

I can also imagine SYP having a say & not wanting us v pigs on the last day of the season

Burton away.

Or some other naff away fixture....Cardiff would be a similar shit first game

I'd quite like Cardiff away as first game as it would mean I could probably go. Already talked the missus into a weekend trip there for that fixture but it would have to be at the weekend and a good chance of decent weather. Better than it being on a Wednesday night in January.

If you look at the fixtures on the opening day across the divisions, it often follows that they seem to pair one of the stronger clubs in the division versus a relegated club from the division above. I correctly guessed our opening fixture would be versus Bolton this season, for that reason.

So I am going to stick with that line of thought and expect that we will play Hull, Middlesboro or Sunderland on the opening day of next season. Home or away? No idea. But I'll guess at Sunderland at home. A fixture we have had once before on the opening day of the season, when some fans will remember Vas Borbokis brilliant debut and tremendous goal from a free kick?

We can beat them again on the opening day of next season. Heavily I hope!

Line of thought falls down slightly though as we won't be considered one of the stronger clubs in this division.........yet, so we won't get one of the relegated premiership clubs.

We might just get one of the relegated Premier League teams

There is TV interest in a relegated club and a promoted club

TV companies will think about United away at Sunderland to provide the viewers with an entertaining lambs to the slaughter scenario

If we win on the other hand it will still make good TV

Away at rust bucket 2nil t blades good start to season

I meant to add one coming up v one coming down.

They like these "were 2 divisions apart" contests. Great ammo for headline making.
