CONFIRMED Enda Stevens signs

Just keeps getting better and better under Wilder. He can do no wrong right now.

Right age, capability, size, budget and it's not even June.

Benefit of being promoted early and being Champions.

As a player, seeing and hearing Wilder in the latter weeks especially, driving us to 100 points, what he did after the Millwall game as well, who wouldn't want to play for him?

Wilders recruitment record is phenomenal, he reminds me of Eddie Howe in that respect, and look where they've ended up!

Really like Stevens, and have seen a lot of him, big step up for the lad, but he has the talent, and I think he might become our regular left back in time.

Pun aside.... yes, pretty much. IMO. I believe he's being signed as first choice LWB.

Which would tally up with us offering him wages (now big L1 club) Portsmouth can't come close to matching. I'd imagine that means 8k p/w+. We won't pay that for a back up left back.

My thoughts exactly.
As he's a free transfer and so highly rated I also reckon he's on a very good contract and won't be a cheap signing. £8K a week would be my guess too. The Pompey fans say he's an excelllent attacking wingback and will be ideal in a 3-5-2 formation.

I reckon when Wilder wants to play an attacking formation, maybe home games then he'll play Stevens.
When we have a tougher game with more defending, maybe away games, he'll go for Lafferty.
Does sound like Stevens may be one for the future who may do a job instantly.
 
Know a lot about this lad, very good player and far too good for L1 and L2. No chance is he coming here as backup either he will be first choice over laffetty, much better player in every area.

Excellent signing.

They will start on an equal footing, but Wilder isn`t one for sentiment.

Whoever performs will have the shirt.
 
Spoke to a work colleague on Monday, who's uncle is a director at United. My work colleague doesn't know a great deal about football but he mentioned that we were trying to sign a full back from Portsmouth that previously played with Donny (Enda Stevens) and someone from Rotherham. I'll see if I can get him to find out who the Rotherham player as it now seems credible info.

Ward I would guess at.
 
Not sure if it has been mentioned but if not it's a worthy mention, freeman will have a great understanding with enda, and that always works having ur full backs / wingers having good understanding so then they know if the other ones gonna bomb forward and whether they need to stay back and cover. And the reason he will have a great understanding with him is that , for the last half of the season with Adkins freeman was on loan at Pompey and would have played with enda a lot .

Why will they have a "great understanding" when they play on opposite wings? It's like saying Billy Sharp will have a great understanding with Simon Moore

Well duh , as I just said it's important for full backs to have a good understanding , because they will know how often each get forward, for instance Lafferty isn't the fastest so he never really went forward so that meant that freeman coud afford to basically stay as a winger, however due to the fact they've played with each other , they will both know eachotehrs artributes and won't have to spend 3 or 4 games learning. Freeman will know that enda Stevens is just as good as him attacking , meaning he will know when and when not to get forward and freeman will be a bit more defensive.

He'd have had to whip up an incredibly quick understanding with him as he only made 7 apps in his time with Pompey & only 4 of those were starts.

Makes zero difference to any wing backs. The formation is designed with the purpose of both bombing forward, 3 centre halves makes up for that.. duuuuuh

not really , a lot of or goals we conceded this season came from freemans side because he either didn't bother coming back or he couldn't get back in time. Enda coming in will mean freeman will be more defensively reserved, don't forget we conceded goals with freeman out of position when we were the number one side , this time we will be seen as one of the underdog teams , meaning a lot of the teams will have Much higher quality players, that will punish people being out of position, so unless we sign a first team centre back. From the top 6 in the league , then freeman needs to be more defensively aware, and having enda on the other side will make him be
 
Wilder obviously rates this guy and will know what he can get out of him. Let's hope it's tied up pretty soon

The defence still works as a unit though. We have three attacking options; the two wing backs and a centre half carrying the ball out of defence so they all need a good understanding and, at times we'll probably hold one of the wing backs back to tighten up.
We'll work on that anyway during the pre-season so Stevens playing with Freeman won't be a massive advantage and less than if he'd joined in a JTW but it must always help when you join a new club if you already know someone there.

Just keeps getting better and better? We're signing Enda Stevens not Chris Wood!

Hopefully he'll turn out to be to a good signing but we're signing a player from League Two, he could just as easily turn into the next Chris Hussey.

Difference is tho he's had 3 good seasons before we sign him Hussey had 1, and ends is obviously reliable with fitness given that hes played 90 of pourtsmouths last 92, also he's played in the premier league plus he's not just played in league two n prem, he's also played in championship with donny and league one with donny
