Blades fans, steel yourselves. You won’t like this but it needs to be said - Sheffield United fans should cheer on Wednesday in the play-offs.
Don’t curse, laugh, mumble, groan, screw up the paper or click back to e-bay.

Bear with it. I’m not calling for a fantasy black-and-white 1950s sportsman-like utopia where we all wish each other the very best, touch the peak of our caps and cycle to work as the factory hooter goes off, compelling though that may be.

No, we’re talking about naked Sheffield United self-interest and here are five reasons why...

The only bit he omitted from this piece of utter shite - in keeping with The Stir's bias - was signing-off with....

WAWAW.

But I do agree with this:

4. You don’t really want to play them next season do you? Who needs the nerves, the anxiety, the wind-ups at work - not that they will totally disappear obviously but save it until it matters more, in the Premier League.

For such a 'massive' club, it's strange that - 38 years later - they're still droning on about a rare win over us (and 4-0 is not a massacre). Losing 8-0 at Newcastle (1999) is a massacre. Losing 7-0 at Man. City (2014) is a massacre. With plenty more similar results to come if the pigs go up.

I was indifferent and more bothered about the crap season we had last year than I was about their playoff result, this year I'm just as indifferent but buzzing from seeing the best united side in years... weather they go up makes no difference to us, we are still building and all we should care about is getting behind wilder, and stopping in the league, leave the dreaming to the dreamers....

No, we’re talking about naked Sheffield United self-interest and here are five reasons why:

1. If Wednesday go up it puts pressure on the Bramall Lane board to invest in United so they can get even.

2. United are champions and Wednesday can’t be so you’re one up there.

3. It’s a step nearer having two Sheffield teams in the Premier League – it might not be the step you would have chosen - but it’s a step in that direction.

4. You don’t really want to play them next season do you? Who needs the nerves, the anxiety, the wind-ups at work - not that they will totally disappear obviously but save it until it matters more, in the Premier League.

5. It’s good for the city of Sheffield – that sounds a bit like someone’s gran talking but it’s true.

If Wednesday beat Huddersfield over two legs and then go on to triumph at Wembley, Blades should take the crowing and the mickey-taking, ignore the ‘We are Premier League’ chants and play the longer game.

United won League One as champions with 100 points and games to spare, no team could do more than that. They can’t make up all the lost ground of the last ten years in one season.

Sheffield needs two teams in the Premier League and one of them probably has to get there first.

There will be Owls and Blades full of scorn who don’t give a damn what happens to the other lot, in fact they’d rather they went out of business than do well. Don’t be so small-minded.

Wednesday and United in the Premier League makes Sheffield a world-class football city and that’s good for both of them and everyone else.

So smile Unitedites, remember your 100 points and the champions’ parade through the city last week, cheer on Wednesday and suck it up if they win.

It’s all part of the Sheffield master-plan . . .

Whoever wrote that wants fucking Birching.

Martin Smith been writing on Barnsley South for years. Certainly not got our interests at heart!

What absolute fucking tosh.

Never in my life have I read such crap. The one that really hit the nerve was the lost ground over the last ten years one!!!!!
Fuck right off....they were in this league with us and we joined them...so lost ground over 10 years?? Wankers!!! It's 2 years, while tuna man chucked silly money in. Up to that point they were relegation material.

Plus, yes I do want to play them! Because as we are now we would give them a game and I fancy to beat them. Not because we have better players all over the park, but the Wilder factor and what they are collectively.

On top of that, they have NO FUCKING IDEA what our spending plans are...for all they know we may well be matching their level of investment and be pushing for a play off spot...just like the piggies!! Huddersfield are in there, they haven't spent silly!!

So, have this one back.
We are Sheffield United, we are back. We have a manager who will get this team where it belongs, and will run down the pigs while he is at it. Our board do NOT need to feel they have to compete with the pigs because they won't waste money on average so we will run our own course and get good players at a fraction of the cost of the piggy twats.
What is better for Sheffield is to have a Derby...just two...with the blades beating them twice on the way to going up.
This country needs United in the top flight to prove what can be done with the right manager and sensible investment.

Not another foreign owned, foreign managed wannabe play thing, full of over rated, over paid prima donnas!!

So, I will be chearing whoever the pigs play. Stick your shitty article back where it came...out of someone's arse.

No: 4 Says we don't want to play Wendy.....!!!

I beg to differ on that one. I want to see us play them next season to see exactly how far we have progressed. The very same can be seen as they DON'T want to play us and that's because they won't want to see how little they have improved over us if any.

I'm guessing the writer is a middle class type and not from Sheffield , "rah rah rah"

The writer can't know anything about football, never mind the rivalries of United and the pigs!

It's supposed to be a bit of "tongue in cheek" fun. But I doubt it will win the Star any new readers from the Blades half of the city

Fuck that shit.

There is no way, ever, even in a billion years, I will celebrate ANYTHING from the piggy end of Sheffield. When we failed at two semi finals and a play off final they cheered and laughed. When they failed at two cup finals I fucking danced around my living room. When we went up and they went down it was like pulling Lucy Versamy and getting a Kate Silverton thrown in for added filth and vile degradation.

I hope they get to the finals ... I truly do. I hope they get David Hopkin-ed, last minute, bent into top corner, forty billion massives crammed into Wem-ber-lee all fucking rooerin' with tears rolling down their stupid blue-and-white faces.

I want them in the Championship next season. The Stir article is indicative of how yitten they are that we'll roll the cunts over.

Fuck Wednesday. UTB

Having read it again, it's won me over. I'm gonna support them in the play offs. I might even buy a ticket to the final. What's point stopping there? I'll probably support them every week and hope both United and Wednesday win every game and draw when they play another. I might even cheers Barnsley and Doncaster. What a great article.

Just - FUCKING NO!

I don't want them anywhere near the final.
I want them to lose the first leg so miserably that they have nothing to play for back at the rust bowl
We can see them rooerin at the Sty - that'll do for me.
