I reckon Wilder and Knill are mainly going to assess, other than his fitness obviously, whether or not he is going to have a detrimental effect on the team spirit if he comes back to stay. I believe they will value his overall impact on the 'togetherness' of the squad above his individual performance ability. If he can come back and get over leaving Clough, and put the team over himself, I reckon he can do a job. I just don't think he can do that. Hopefully he will want to be a part of what Wilder has got going at the Lane though.

I think you're right. And I think Clough will be offered the Forest job and will take Brayford there with him. It's good for us. He's no better than Freeman and it means we get a nice big fee for him (hopefully).

I doubt that Wilder rates him. Lets him go out on a season long loan - and it was hardly in the same boat as sending a kid to a lower league to gain experience - brings Freeman in and (along with some other changes like Moore and Wright) our fortunes start to change.

A few saying Freeman will struggle with the defensive side of his game in the Championship, but from what I saw Brayford was really struggling with exactly that in League 1 last at the start of this season, and his bombing forward attacking runs weren't really happening either. Don't know how he's been used at Burton but I think I heard he was playing in more of a central role.

As for him not being a crock - he may have played 36 games but with bad knees that hinder training and physical contact, plus the fact of the strain it puts on other joints (the games he missed this season was due to a strain on his 'good' knee) and Wilder's M.O. for his wing backs/players in general - there is no denying that Brayford would be at greater risk of missing significant parts of the season compared to other options and his injuries MUST be a consideration when deciding his future.

It's not unreasonable to think he would I admit. Maybe it would work out.

But this, coupled with the Evans signing is a retrograde step to my mind. At a time when we could be bringing in fresh players with a view to building a dynamic team we appear to be going down the tried and tested route. Personally it doesn't appeal to me.

The "good"knee injury he sustained in January was due to a collision with an opponent, unlikely to becaused by any injury to his "bad" knee.

If Brayford comes back, he'll injure himself in August, be out for most of the season and leave on a free.
If we sell him, he'll have a blinding season and be in the championship team of the season.

Brayford aint a centre back - he only played there because Clough was short on defenders.

I dont want him back - didnt want to be part of this season with us - says it all. He can remain with his Dad at Burton. They can pay us an acceptable transfer fee as well.

As has been said, I think he's best forgotten, he's getting on a little now, the injury seemed to set him back a mile and in the approach to our game, he wouldn't be suited.

Arguably this system will suit him more than any played during his time at SUFC. Getting on a little at 29? And if KF is injured, who plays RWB? I'd argue that any players with Championship experience could prove more than useful - he'd even suit RCB in this system. Worth a look in pre-season, at least.
