Amongst all the great feeling this promotion has provided, I may not be the only one in feeling that this is just the beginning.

I'm not one for getting too swept up in things but I can see a number of things in our favour. Namely:

1. Relegated teams. Let's be fair, there's some right garbage coming down from the Premier League. Sunderland are awful, need a huge clearout of players under contract, which will not be easy and their only dependable player in Defoe will definitely be off plus their manager is under huge pressure and might not even stay. Middlesborough squeezed up but Brighton were a better team. They've got few stars and will start the season probably with a new manager and the uncertainty that brings. Swansea are nothing special and have few stars to worry about. Hull, have one or two tidy players, but the better ones would clearly move on like Maguire, Robertson etc. A number are loanees who will return to their parent clubs.

2. Promoted teams. Brighton and Newcastle have been head and shoulders above and will not be there. Of the play off teams, is there really much to fear in Fulham, Wednesday, Reading and Huddersfield? Yes, they've done well, but there's nothing that says runaway leaders to me at all. Leeds will be starting from scratch once more. Norwich also.

3. Burton. Beg, stole and borrowed players, on a minimal budget and stayed up relatively easily. Most most of their signings were more suitable top end League One. We'll have far more ambition.

4. Goals. Theoretically it will be harder to score in the Championship. But 92 league goals in a season shows some capability. I understand the 'gamble' aspect of Evans though the investment (I bet far less than 500k) vs potential return is huge; he's potentially better than Rhodes with the right circumstances. But also, for a promoted team, how many can boast 2 strikers with the capacity to score 30+ goals in a full season? United have this with Evans and Sharp. Clarke is also a 20 goal man at some point in his career. Other options exist, but I don't see us struggling to score.

5. Our midfield. We have a certain style to us which I don't see disappearing overnight. Coutts isn't going to lose the ability to retain the ball and pick a pass. Fleck isn't going to lose the ability to run with the ball. I can see Duffy being hit and miss, but he adds to that style and I think this is where Chris will get him some help. I wouldn't be surprised to see Maddison, Holmes or Chapman join us in the close season. All of which should be affordable wage wise, all of which hard workers. I caught a glimpse of the Bolton game the other day and Maddison was outstanding. Holmes has stepped up one level with ease.

6. Signings. Wilder's record is very good. I can see him making sensible signings which will be affordable and take us to the next level. Evans, modest outlay, potential decent reward. The likes of Holmes, affordable but potential match winner. There's at least two very good keepers we are linked with, both on frees in Etheridge and Smith to give more depth. You've got the young Southampton guy who plays RB, RWB and CB who would also fit the young and hungry mold. What else do we need? Perhaps Riley to return and provide further cover for both fullbacks? Even in midfield, Carruthers is still untapped and Whiteman has made a strong case for a squad place. With sensible additions, Wilder can make the squad even more formidable without breaking the bank.

7. Funding. On top of the signings mentioned above, and aside from Kevin and the Prince committing to support the manager, there's going to be some bonus funding coming our way isn't there? Walker is being targeted by Man City, Bayern Munich, Barcelona if the papers are to be believed and at a handsome fee. No smoke without fire. Then Harry. Does he fulfill his ambitions at Hull? I can't see it. Both have sell-ons to the best of my knowledge.

8. The Management. There's a relentless approach we haven't seen in a long time. We could have let up after Northampton, but that's not the mentality. Why would it change? The mentality is to attack and to win. At 3 points for a win and with this approach, top 6 could be achieved in my view if not better.

I'm not by any means counting my chickens at all and will enjoy what comes next, but there is certainly no reason to fear what awaits, especially with the terrific backing the team and management can rely on.

I'd tip us for a relegation battle if Adkins or a clough took us up, but Wilder is a different beast. He won't be cautious next season he will approach each game as won that we should be winning.

I'm not getting carried away, I think rationally we will do very well under this man.

I think we need to all calm down a little, we will be in no danger of relegation and we have potentially the finest management team in our history but The Championship has become a ''money" League over the last five years and until we can build up some financial muscle, and that is going to take a few years at the level, we shouldn't be expecting a promotion challenge.

I've said it a few times but the way Huddersfield have approached things since going up from League one is probably the model they are looking at.

We need a few key additions, but carry on keeping the ball, working hard and creating chances...and we'll be reyt!

I'd say we need to acclimatise and condition the club to the realm of the Championship, rather than have any head-spinny, nose-bleed ambition to go up another level. I'd be very surprised if we have the throughput to acquire PL level playing staff to sustain any sort of foothold. We all know what happened last time we ventured to the promised land. I cannot imagine Wilder ever getting the boot (I don't want to imagine it either) after a disastrous season.

The club needs to re-grow steadily.

We are a way off for getting anywhere near promotion in my view and I tipped Fleetwood to go down this season so I know what I'm on about.

Interesting though that I've been on the Derby , Sunderland and Leeds forums this week and all 3 have had people saying we will compete for the play offs next season. I don't agree but its a stark contrast reading the views of genuine neutrals who we will be competing against next season to those of the Wednesday fans who are desperately trying to convince each other we will be coming straight back down. .

Anything's possible in football, Leicester proved that not too long back. I like to talk in terms of likelihoods though, and I think promotion is anything but likely. We ought to aim to get the best players we can on whatever our budget is and go from there. Any finish outside the bottom three would be acceptable, we won't know what's truly achievable until the season's well under way.

We're a way off promotion. People saying Sunderland, Boro etc are garbage is laughable. It's a different beast the Championship - the reason why games genuinely look shite is that the level of teams is all pretty strong and it's very, very competitive. Teams seldom dominate even if they have quality so matches tend to appear scrappy.

If Leicester can win the Premier League we can win promotion from the Championship. We have the right men at the helm and the nucleus of a competitive squad. Our fitness regime is clearly sound and everyone is pulling in the same direction. The feelgood factor is in place and BDTBL will be hostile next season. Away support will be phenomenal as ever. A few sensible additions and who knows what we might achieve. Fuck it I say. Let's aim for 1st and see where it takes us.

I understand people being positive but if we are towards the bottom next season I just hope people realise that's realistically where we should. Our wage bill be one of the lowest in the league and after 6 years of being expected to win every game we can use being the underdog to our advantage if we realise where we are right now as a club.

I think there's every reason to be optimistic about pushing the top end of the table, i.e. top 6. Don't know if any of you heard TC on the radio yesterday but he was talking about the quality of the football we've played, yes we know it's only League 1, but as he said, some of the football has been Premiership class - and it has. It's actually been amongst the best football I've ever seen a Blades team play in any division. That makes me very confident - that and the knowledge that Wilder is one hell of a good manager who won't hesitate to fix things if they aren't right and will continue to play this expansive, attacking, passing football. In some ways we'll have a bit more time and space to do that as well in the Championship - it's not quite so physical and in your face as league 1. The big challenge is we will get done for mistakes more and be coming up against some very good technical players. We'll need to have a bit more pace in the side, both up front and at the back, but I'm sure Wilder will be aware of that and be looking to strengthen.

Let me ask a question...Do you think this current squad could beat Barnsley? They sold off their best players in Jan and still finished comfortably in mid-table. We beat them last season with a team nowhere near as good as this one when they had their best players available. I don't think we'll have any problem finishing higher next season than they have finished this - they are currently 14th. But get the recruitment right and we'll be back to where we were when we played in the Championship before - a side pushing for the top 6 every season - bar one of course!

This team isn't good enough for top six in the championship, of course it depends on how much money we spend but mid table would be a great season. We struggled against Derby preseason, who themselves had a crap start to the season.we need to temper our expectations for next season. Our defense will be an issue up against pacy players, week in week out. And scoring goals, we will need help for Sharp and Leon, as for Evens, he is a gamble.

Middlesbrough will walk the league. Sunderland will finish top 8. Swansea or Hull top 6.

Ridiculous to suggest otherwise.
I completely disagree with your post!. I have mates who are Sunderland fans and they say their club is in free fall due to bad ownership amongst other factors. hull have a few loan players who will not be there next season if they are relegated!!. We on the other hand have a brilliant management team who will not think just escaping relegation is a successful season!!. Let's wait and see what happens but if we finish in the top 6!. I won't be surprised!!.

Agree completely. The money floating around the Champ is frightening. The prince & Kev's wealth together is the norm for owners up there.

I've said it a few times on here, but I believe the key to our success next season is how we play without the ball. This season we've pretty much dominated most games and enjoyed the majority of possession. It would be great if we did the same in the Championship but it's unlikely.

Already started scouting for next season? ;)

Agree Middlesbrough will be up there, but I think whichever out of Swansea or Hull comes down will walk the Championship.

As things stand, we have the nucleus of a good side, but with the right additions we could flirt with the Play Offs. The flip side of that is, with the wrong additions we'll be flirting with relegation.

Barnsley have shown that you can have a decent season following promotion, but the biggest difference between them and us is that they came up with a young team full of potential.

The worry for me is that the average age of Sunday's starting XI will be 28.3 at the start of next season, OK Samir may drop that a bit by replacing Duffy, but in general we have a starting XI which doesn't have a great deal of potential and is full of players who never done anything at Championship level.

With what we currently have, we could secure a mid table finish like Barnsley, but to expect this current team with a few additions to get promoted is crazy talk in my opinion. We need major surgery to turn this team into promotion contenders, which I don't think we can afford, but lets see what this summer brings, exciting times are ahead!

Is it me, or does anybody think that there are comparisons between the period between Aug 88 to May 90 to now ?

That, after a long time in the wilderness, we got a manager who got players running through brick walls and who would have died for the club, we fact we played with passion, we travelled in great numbers, and what's more, we got promoted two seasons on the bounce from the old 3rd Division back to the old 1st.

If we can carry on the momentum from this season to next, who's to say that lightning won't strike twice? And if, god forbid, the scum do get promoted, that we pass them again on our way back up, as they drop out of the trap door from the Premiership? They'd have to bring the Green 'Un back especially for this... :-D

Championship season ends on 5th May next season. Look at the date of that Green 'Un

The dream needs to continue.
The players and manager need to continue doing what they are doing

If we change into a cautious negative style it's a sure sign that all concerned don't believe their good enough, and then we will struggle.

We have a problem getting what we do deserve never mind anything we don't.

There's no worse feeling in football than being beaten by a late winner by a crap team because we just didn't have a go.

So carry on with the good attacking football and to hell with it.

If we lose a few games, so what, next season is a hall pass for everybody so we might as well enjoy it and gradually improve the team for the following years

If we go out to win games and show no fear we will win enough games to finish mid table

Winning breeds winners.

Sunderland are used to losing and are in free fall, they'll be lucky to make the top 10, we're winning and playing attract (almost sexual) stuff, the team spirit is as stronger bond i've seen since the Harry Bassett days and we've got the best manager outside of the PL.

For me we're going straight thorough, top 2, i've watched some championship matches this season and only really being impressed by Brighton, the others are much of a muchness.

As someone mentioned Barnsley were on the brink of something special until they sold their best 2 players, we're much better than they were last season.

Keep the Faith Blades cos its happening.
