I think while we asked for special dispensation to have the plate we lifted, a few years back they introduced trophies for the runners-up – possibly when the sponsors changed.

It's possible that the act of putting together our own silverware with the Football League's permission caused them to maybe think that they should have something for the runners-up. I'd have gone for something more distinctive than cups for all three – plates for the runners-up, shields for the playoff winners...
