Sunderland are on there way down through the leagues, they are in dire straights with debt and will have to shed 70% of their squad in the summer to make ends meet (parachute money does not buy this club a chance). They are fucked, we are on the up, money to spend and on a roll.

Wilder ain't daft.
 
I can't see Wilder taking the Sunderland job, but if Middlesbrough came in for him I could see him going.
 
Not a snowball in hell's chance. I'd expect him to leave for a Premiership job if offered, but Sunlan are an oil tanker headed into the rocks.
 
Good chance we will finish above them next season. If you are going to leave the club that you love and that loves you you'd at least do it for a decent top end job.
 
If I were McCabe or the Prince I would improve Wilder and Knill's contract today, at the latest tomorrow. Maybe that is why the Prince is here. Norwich pay their managers well. So I have heard.

Bigger budget? True, with the parachute payments

Better squad? Not so sure about that

Better chance of promotion? I'll place a wager we will finish higher than Sunderland next season

I think Wilder had another, rather major reason, for leaving Northampton for us, am sure the wages are great but not everything to him. I am perhaps naive, but I'll never be more surprised than if Wilder left us for Sunderland for the reasons you suggest, he's not that shallow.

Yeah but we were still wealthy for the division we were in. Light years ahead of Northampton.

Sunlan's owner wants out, the club has big debts and there's a squad full of Premiership contracts that need dealing with.

I'm not one who thinks Wilder will stay because he's a Blade. But Sunlan would be a poor choice.
 
Wilder. Leave. For Sunlan. Spat my lager all over at that one.

He'll leave in ten years time, for the England job, after securing the quadruple (PL, CL, FAC, LC) with United.

You didn't answer why Wilder would leave the Blades for Sunderland, you answered the question why he left Northampton for us, and failed to answer even that rather easy question.

You said why would he leave us for another Championship club, Sunderland aren't the only Championship club! I wasn't referring to Sunderland specifically, it was the Championship in general.

A neutral would see Norwich or Middlesbrough as a step up from where we currently are. It depends what Wilder wants to achieve in his career, if it's to manage at the very top, unfortunately we'll be a stepping stone in that journey.

Norwich and Boro would be steps up given their parachute money and stable ownership, no question. But if our owners are going to back him for a play-off challenge with us, then the pull won't be so great.

Let's see what this phased approach to investment actually means.

I'm not a neutral, granted, but to say that Norwich or Boro are a step up from us is ridiculous. Maybe right at this very moment it is (despite us having just achieved 100 points etc, but if budget is how you define a step-up..), but by the end of next season? Not saying we will be above them, but we will be competing.

As I said before, I may be naive, but to say that Wilder would leave us for a "step-up club" such as (with respect to them) Norwich or Boro, is way off the mark.

Exactly! If we back Wilder this summer, he won't be going anywhere. But if we don't and he gets a better offer then I wouldn't be surprised if he moved on.

As far as being a bigger club throughout history, then I'd say we're bigger.

Right now, Norwich and Middlesbrough are in a much better position to challenge next season. Could that change over the summer? Of course, but I don't think it will because they both currently have better squads and will probably out spend us in the summer.

I obviously don't want Wilder to leave and I'm probably more pessimistic than most, but at the end of the day this is Wilder's career and I don't see him staying just because he's a fan of the club.
 
I'd guess Wilder will want to give the Championship a whirl with us. His passion shines through. Anyone see him puck the ball boy up and spin him around after the goal? Kid was grinning from ear to ear for ages.

I don't think pucking a young boy is anything to be proud of,but each to their own.
