Thank you. I always get reminiscent when reading about the Bassett days, they were my introduction to the madness of being a Blade. I always rated Wilder as a right back and it's interesting to find out all these years later why he was moved on. It's ironic that his replacement (Pemberton) had pace but little else but was able to play at the top level for a good while. Looking forward, who will the Wilder magic rub off on from this group? Who will be the new Bassett, new Wilder, in 2045?
"Little else"? Pembo could kick a football harder than anyone - ever. (I still prefer Wilder though.)Thank you. Also a great coach and youth team coach.Pembowas a rather good man marker and also a decent centre back, decent goalie, not as good as Woody or Jags though between the sticks, liked him a lot as a player

Am I imagining it or did he used to sometimes when running to take a throw in he'd do a forward roll?
Wilder can write himself into the annals of Blades history. He has absolutely every attribute and personal quality to be a huge success. He has the dream job,but more importantly the abilities to deal successfully with the huge pressures that brings.
I haven't felt this much belief in a manager and man since Dave Bassett.
Wilder is a winner. A BLADES winner.
Love him to bits.

He did it once. He messed it up (threw it straight into the ground), and then clattered into the opposition player who he'd chucked it to, and got a yellow card. Apparently he did it pretty well in training (it was known as the Pemberton Rocket), but Bassett told him not to try it in a match again.
I think it was the 1st home game 91/92 season against West Ham with new seats/ roof on Kop.He did it once. Another one we let go far too easily was John Pemberton the coach..Also a great coach and youth team coach.
